Cognate with West Frisian flot (raft), German Low German Flott, Flött (raft), Old English flot (sea), Old English flota (ship; vessel; fleet), Old Norse flot (that which floats; grease), Icelandic floti (fleet). Also related to German Floß (raft), Old English flīete (that which floats; boat; raft; cream), Danish flåde (raft), Swedish flotte (raft).
