From Proto-Tocharian *käurp-, from Proto-Indo-European *kerp-h₁-o-, from *kerp- (“to pluck”), a form of *(s)ker- (“to cut”). Cognate with English harvest, German Herbst (“autumn”), Latin carpo (“to pluck”), Lithuanian kirpti (“to chop”), etc.
