раҳмат
Tajik
editEtymology
editInherited from Classical Persian رَحْمَت (rahmat, “mercy, compassion, commiseration”), from Arabic رَحْمَة (raḥma). Sense 1 may be a calque of French merci (“thanks”, literally “mercy”), whence Russian мерси (mersi, “thanks”), and is widespread in usage across post-Soviet Central Asia. Compare Uzbek rahmat, Kazakh рахмет (raxmet)/рақмет (raqmet), Kyrgyz ыракмат (ırakmat), Bashkir рәхмәт (rəxmət), Tatar рәхмәт (räxmät).
