Paddlefish

edit

We certainly appreciate improvements to our articles but this edit and this edit are not improvements. If you want to change the categories you need consensus, so please start a discussion on the article talk page. Atsme 💬 📧 15:48, 9 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Atsme, The Category:Acipenseriformes is the parent category (superior category) of Category:Polyodontidae. According to convention, a category and its parent category should not appear in the same article. The Category:Freshwater fish of North America should be added to the species article American paddlefish separately, because the Paddlefish is a family, which also includes Chinese paddlefish and Protopsephurus which are not distributed in North America. 蕭漫 (talk) 16:42, 9 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Categories are not taxoboxes - they are simply a way for our readers to navigate the encyclopedia and find articles. We are not a science journal. You might read WP:Category wherein it states: The central goal of the category system is to provide navigational links to Wikipedia pages in a hierarchy of categories which readers, knowing essential—defining—characteristics of a topic, can browse and quickly find sets of pages on topics that are defined by those characteristics. ¶Categories are not the only means of enabling users to browse sets of related pages. Other tools which may be used instead of or alongside categories in particular instances include lists and navigation boxes. For a comparison of these techniques, see Categories, lists and navigation templates. Atsme 💬 📧 17:53, 9 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fern taxa names

edit

The names used for the higher taxa of ferns are extremely confused. The redirect system in place has been there for some time, and should be changed only with discussion at WT:PLANTS. I suspect that many of the names should actually redirect to some disambiguation-type page that sets out the variant uses. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:57, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Peter coxhead, Thank you for the information, I don't know much about plant taxonomy yet. 蕭漫 (talk) 10:23, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

September 2023

edit

Hello. Some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to Category:Merginae, might be problematic. It's recommended you seek consensus for certain edits by discussing the matter on the article's talk page. I noted that you redirected Category:Merginae to Category: Mergini without moving the pages within it or requesting a rename. Its recommended that you nominate categories for renaming using Wikipedia:Categories for discussion instead. A couple of other people have also pointed this out on your talk page.
