Using the classic skin, the image appears to the left of the battlebox rather than (as I presume is the intention) just below. I believe this is a known bug, but can be solved with a floatright table. I see the same problem occurs in Battle of Tinian. I'll edit here to show how it can be fixed, but please let me know if you object, or there is an approved format or something. -- ALoan (Talk) 11:15, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)

This article is about the battle of Guam in 1944. There was also a capture of Guam in 1941 by Japan. As far as I can tell, there is no article about that "Battle of Guam". (The names it might be given, ior that redirect to it, are Battle of Guam (1941) Japanese capture of Guam, Japanese invasion of Guam, Invasion of Guam (1941), Fall of Guam (1941), Japanese occupation of Guam, Capture of Guam (1941), Capture of Guam by Japan, Invasion of Guam by Japan, and others. The article Capture of Guam is about the American capture during the Spanish American War) I don't see any particular reason why an article on Japan's capture cannot exist. If there is an article about it, whether it is created in the future or already exists under some name I haven't thought of, this article would need a dablink at the top. If the article about the Japanese capture of Guam is given the name Battle of Guam (1941), it might be necessary to rename this article to Battle of Guam (1944).

One possible objection to renaming this would be if this Battle of Guam is considered "more significant" than the 1941 event. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 23:14, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Map of the Battle of Guam, 1944.svg will be appearing as picture of the day on July 21, 2013. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2013-07-21. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:57, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

A map (full view) showing the progression of the Second Battle of Guam (July 21 – August 10, 1944), in which the United States recaptured the Japanese-held island of Guam. The Japanese, who had taken the island almost three years earlier, saw more than 18,000 casualties during the campaign, most of whom were killed; the American forces took nearly 8,000 casualties, with over 1,700 killed. The first date of the battle is now celebrated as Liberation Day in Guam.Map: Grandiose

Hi, everyone. The OOB had gotten really unwieldy so I moved it to its own page and substituted a thumbnail Opposing Forces section. Hungrydog55 (talk) 00:00, 6 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

2-inch guns?

edit

The text reads "A total of 274 ships, which fired 44,978 shots from 2-inch and 5-inch guns..." One would think that 2-inch (51 mm) guns would be rather ineffective for shore bombardment, and I'm not aware of the US Navy actually having weapons of that caliber. Considering that there were both battleships and cruisers taking part, guns of 12" and 8" and/or 6" caliber would presumably have been used in addition to the destroyers' 5" weapons.--Death Bredon (talk) 22:21, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
