:Dear Liz, I am sorry to see that you have deleted my wikipedia page on the grounds of ‘no notability’. I should let you know that my book is considered a music book and it has been used for many years in UK inner city classrooms where it provided a brief taster and introduction to Indian Music. It was also reprinted several times by my publisher, Oxford University Press. Despite its soft cover it was considered to be a classroom music text book by UK music teachers.
:Also the book was published in 1980 when there was NO other classroom book which introduced Indian music into UK classrooms at the time. As such, it was considered to be the very FIRST school book which provided a brief introduction to Indian music. It was also accessible and understandable to pupils and teachers who were totally unfamiliar with the genre. The book is not meant to be for Indian music academics. Nor is it meant to be a total and complete explanation of an ancient, great tradition that is complex, beautiful and even spiritual. It is an initial introduction to inner city pupils or anyone else who is keen to taste other musical genres. Music teachers whom I know, have commended the book for bringing ‘Indian music’ into the classroom. The book may have one or two minor flaws as many others may have. Nonetheless, even those who dislike or denigrate “other” musical cultures do accept that the book is the first of its kind and has provided a taste of Indian music in inner city classrooms. Also may I add that classroom music books (not text books) tend to be shorter as pupils and teachers find them easier to read and follow. Considering the above, I am shocked, upset and hurt by why editors have considered this book to be unworthy of ‘notability’. Unless of course, there were other books of this genre used in music classrooms which were published before or during its time.
