English: Battle of Callan Grave A great victory by the McCarthys of Munster against the Norman invaders took place near here in 1261. According to this memorial, Donal, Chieftain of the McCarthy Fineens was killed in the Battle of Callan on this very spot, and was buried here where he fell.
