The 1965–66 European Cup was the tenth season of the European Cup, UEFA's premier club football tournament. The competition was won by Real Madrid, winners of the first five European Cups from 1956 to 1960, for the sixth time in a close final against Partizan. Real Madrid eliminated title-holders Internazionale in the semi-finals.

A total of 31 teams participated in the competition.

Italy was represented by only one club, with Inter Milan qualifying as title holders. Alongside ever-present Real Madrid, Benfica made their seventh appearance.

17 Nëntori, LASK Linz, Levski Sofia, APOEL, Sparta Prague, HJK, Nantes, Werder Bremen, Keflavík, Derry City, Kilmarnock, and Lausanne Sports made their debut in the competition.

Djurgården made their first appearance since the 1955–56 tournament, while Manchester United and Stade Dudelange made their first appearances since 1957–58.

Note: Starting in the 1963–64 tournament, only the title holder, Internazionale, joined directly in the first round. They were the only Italian team to enter, while Cyprus re-entered its champion thus keeping the number of participants at 31.
