Stephanie Pogue

Stephanie Elaine Pogue (1944–2002)[1] was an American professor, printmaker, artist, and curator. Her artistic interests included the portrayal of women and the human figure.[2]

Early life

She was born in Shelby, North Carolina, but was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She attended college at Howard University for her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Cranbrook Academy for her Master of Fine Arts.[3] She died at age 58 at the Mariner of Laurel health care facility on November 12, 2002 from cardiac arrest. Career

Pogue was the protegee of artist David Driskell, who was also her undergraduate instructor at Howard University.[4] She worked at Fisk University from 1968 from 1981. She was a gallery director and an art professor who taught on topics such as printmaking, drawing, and art appreciation.[5] She left in 1981 to work at the University of Maryland as a faculty instructor of printmaking, drawing, and papermaking.[5]
