The 2017 San Francisco 49ers season is the franchise's 68th season in the National Football League and their 72nd overall. It will also be the first season under the head coach /general manager tandem of Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch . The 49ers entered the season hoping to improve on their 2–14 record from the 2016 season and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2013 . They also and started 0-9 for the first time in franchise history.

Coaching changes
Owner Jed York announced that he would hire a new general manager and the new head coach due to a bad season. On January 29, 2017, the 49ers hired John Lynch as their general manager.[1] On February 6, 2017, the 49ers hired Atlanta Falcons ' offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan as the new coach of the San Francisco 49ers .[2]
