Oded David "O.D" Kobo (Hebrew: קובו עודד; born August 30, 1975) is an American-Israeli Internet entrepreneur and businessman. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Kobo was born in Hong Kong, the eldest of six children to property tycoon Bebo Kobo.[5] He was educated in Hong Kong, New York and London, and studied at the London School of Economics for two years before dropping out. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10][11] [12] [13]

Career

Kobo made his fortune investing in the early days of China's Internet industry and through property investments in the United Kingdom alongside his father. [14] He maintains holdings in several leading technology companies and property. [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20]

Kobo started his career at the age of twenty-one by licensing patented technology to the online lottery industry with e-Lottery (once the domain holder of Lottery.com).[21] Between 2001-2009, Kobo established several China based investment companies - namely KGIM, SinoSheen, and Koolanoo Group.[22] Koolanoo Group a holding group of multiple Internet properties had partnered with the Prime Minister of Qatar Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani and the Qatar Investment Authority by way of a $50 million investment. SinoSheen a Hong Kong based investing company was sold in early 2006 for an undisclosed sum and KGIM a holding entity for various technology investments was acquired by private investment group East River Capital in 2009 for $75 million. In 2012, Kobo founded Pheed, a mobile pay-per-view technology.[25] [26] Pheed was acquired 18 months after launch in March 2014, by Mobli Media Group, a company majority owned by Carlos Slim, for $40 million.[27][28][29][30] [31] [32]

In 2014, Kobo alongside his father property tycoon Bebo Kobo sold majority holdings of their Camden Market Holdings to fellow Israeli billionaire Teddy Sagi of Playtech for $680 million in an all cash deal. [33] [34]Camden Market Holdings is a property conglomerate, owner of the iconic Camden Market, Stables Market and Camden Lock developments. Today the company trades publicly as Market Tech Holdings (LON:MKT). [35]

In September 2014, Kobo co-founded Shellanoo Group, a technology company specializing in mobile applications and Internet related services. Kobo's partners in Shellanoo Group include Roman Abramovich, David Guetta, Avicii, Tiesto, Nicki Minaj, Will.i.am, Benny Anderson, Sebastian Ingrosso, Gee Roberson (former chairman of Geffen Records) and Dave Holmes (manager of Coldplay). [36] [37] [38] [39] In 2016, Shellanoo Group sold two products from its portfolio, anonymous messaging app Blindspot and Chinese music radio app MrC for $32 million to a group of tech investors from China. Kobo is CEO of PIR Equities, an alternative asset management firm he co-founded in 2008. According to Globes, Kobo raised $980 million for it in 2008 to pursue opportunistic value-based investments.[42]

Personal life

In 2015, he married fashion blogger Etos Ovadia, they have one daughter and live in New York and Israel. [43] [44] [45]
