Ajit Andhare, born on July 11 is an Indian business leader, entrepreneur, currently Chief Operating Officer at Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.

Early life and education

Ajit Andhare completed his Bachelors of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Engineering Rourkela in 1995. After working at Hindustan Lever he joined the founding batch of Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and pursued a Master’s degree in management in 2001. [1] [1]

Career

Ajit currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Viacom 18 Motion Pictures (VMP), the motion pictures business of Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd, recognized as a leading studio for producing path breaking films. [2] [2]


As Chief Operating Officer, he has driven a vision for content led cinema with a differentiated script at the heart of a film. Ajit’s leadership has garnered the studio both critical acclaim and box office success. His mission to drive profitability at the Studio with story driven films has yielded standout films as well as strong business results. Under his leadership, the studio broke new ground first with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in 2013, Queen & Mary Kom in 2014, Drishyam & Manjhi in 2015. [3] [4] [5] Films like Queen & Mary Kom led solely by female characters not only succeeded at the box office but went on to win National awards, a hat trick for VMP after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’s win in 2013. Prior to his current role, Ajit founded a television content company Colosceum Media Pvt. Ltd. raising venture capital from Raghav Bhal’s Capital18. [7] His company produced several franchise television properties such as MTV Roadies, MTV Splitsvilla, Jai Shri Krishna for Colors, Wheel Smart Shrimati for Unilever and the Master Chef India series for Star India carving out a unique niche in Indian content space.[8] He exited the venture in 2013 to pursue his passion for Cinema joining Viacom 18 Motion Pictures [7] [8] Before Ajit took to entrepreneurship, he was among Unilever Plc.’s distinguished marketers in India and the Asia Pacific region. [9] Through his 12 years at Unilever in India and overseas, Ajit served with distinction in Brooke Bond Lipton, Hindustan lever & Unilever Thailand with stints in diverse businesses & functions from Engineering & Project management, General management in Animal Feeds, Sales in Detergents to Marketing in Laundry & Hair care. Prior to building his career in marketing and general management Ajit started off in the Engineering function at Brooke Bond Lipton and led several Engineering projects setting up green field factories for its feeds business and developed innovative engineering solutions. He joined HUL & BBLIL group of companies as Management Trainee in 1995. Ajit’s professional & entrepreneurial journey forms part of an anthology – The Start Up Diaries featuring his story & Colosceum alongside those of Red Bus, Pay TM, Eko, Yo China, The Loot, One 97 & their founders. The book published in 2013 & 2016 features personal accounts of the start-up journeys of professionals turned first generation entrepreneurs who created enduring businesses from scratch. [11] [11]
