Law enforcement in Madeira is the responsibility of the Madeira Police force, which employs regular, maritime and border police units to provide security for the Portuguese archipelago's 797 km² of territory and population of 253,482[1] on behalf of the Polícia de Segurança Pública and Portuguese Republican National Guard. Of the latter, it is the Fiscal Brigade that is responsible for the customs and border patrol.
