This is a list of characters from the American animated television series The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

Main Characters

Grim Reaper

Grim is the Grim Reaper, personification of Death, here portrayed as a scythe-wielding skeleton in a black hooded robe and speaks with a Jamaican accent. The Grim Reaper is over 10,000 years old; he was a child at the time of the Neanderthals. As a young skeleton, he replaced his older father as the Grim Reaper. He did not get along well with his father. However, Grim eventually learned to enjoy Grim Reaping.

By losing a bet to Billy and Mandy, he was fated to be their "best friend" forever, but the children treat him more like a slave. He often is forced to do their chores and create supernatural fun for them. Grim enjoys all kinds of chaos, despair, torture, and many other dark things. He attends children's martial arts classes. Grim is slowly adapting to modern life, and is usually seen, in his free time, watching television.

Billy

Billy is an extremely happy-go-lucky child, with an IQ of -5, which is far below the upper limit of being mentally retarded. He has a pink, extremely large nose, wears a blue and white striped shirt, and covers his orange hair with a red hat. Like his father, he has a number of unpleasant habits, including nose-picking, flatulence, male chauvinism,. Prone to surprising and nonsensical fits of rage, he is extremely hyperactive, with a knack for causing all kinds of disasters, often related to abusing Grim's supernatural items, Billy has an obsession with naming most of his new friends. He has Arachnophobia, Coulrophobia.

Mandy

Mandy is Billy's closest friend, but is full of hate. It has been known that she has been full of anger since she was in the womb. Her character stands in stark contrast with Billy: a blond horn-like hairdo (which makes some fans think that this form of hairstyle resembles a kind of gravestone), noseless girl, with an acerbic and sarcastic attitude, evil personality ("I'm all for the abuse and exploitation of the stupid."), and often surprising intellect and knowledge of the supernatural, spouting semi-useful information about a strange creature they come across. Mandy is a fearless fighter who will stand up to schoolyard bullies and monsters from the underworld without flinching. She rarely smiles, except on a couple occasions. She is rude to essentially everyone, including her parents, who fear her very presence. Appearing as something of a downer in the very first episodes, she has since become more dark and powerful; her role with Billy has also changed from a good friend to ruling over him, constantly bossing him and Grim around.

Billy and Mandy's Classmates

Irwin

Next to Mandy and Grim, Irwin is Billy's closest friend. He is a nerd who desperately aspires to be cool and frequently ends sentences with "yo". He has an unhealthy crush on Mandy and longs to gain her affection, often stalking her. He frequently fails in both goals, typically embarrassing himself and getting beat up by her. Irwin might be one of Billy's closest friends but is often forgotten in dangerous situations, as well as being used as bait.

Irwin is slated to appear in the Billy and Mandy spin-off Underfist.

Pud'n

A physically weak and easily terrified friend and classmate of Billy, Mandy, and Irwin. He's often the victim and/or instigator of some terrible trauma. Pud'n is a red-headed, freckled, buck-toothed little boy who wears a hoodie and will cry at the slightest provocation. He is very emotional and will burst into tears whenever he gets to emotion. Pud'n loves dollies, bunnies, flowers and many other "girly" things. He is usually found hanging out with Billy and Irwin, being beaten up, or in class. On rare occasions, Pud'n has shown defiance towards his persecutors and bullying potential.

Sperg

Sperg is the local bully, often seen tormenting Billy, Irwin, Pud'n, and others. He's a husky boy whose preferred method of terrorizing nerds is by administering his "deadly" wedgies. He has a heart-shaped tattoo that reads "Mom" on his arm and looks up to her. Despite his brutal strength, he is terrified of Mandy.

Mindy

Mindy is the iconic "popular girl." She is obsessed with proving her worth to Mandy (when she first moved into Endsville, she wanted to become friends with Mandy but was rejected, starting her hatred for her), who doesn't much care for the spoiled girl. She considers herself superior to her classmates, and her father buys her outrageous gifts. Mindy is red-haired and freckled and she describes herself as "much prettier" than Mandy. She frequently calls her classmates "losers." But deep down inside she envies Mandy's witty ways and all her adventures with her friends Grim and Billy.

Nergal Junior

Nergal Junior is the son of Nergal and Aunt Sis, and Billy's cousin. He has the power to shapeshift, and most of the time he appears in the form of a kid who rejected his offer of friendship. When he takes another's shape, he keeps his lime eyes, glasses, green tongue and sharp, yellow teeth. His true form is implied to be freakish and grotesque, and was never seen on-screen until in the episode The Most Greatest Love Story Told Ever. Like his father, he is lonely and can't find friends, and because of his desperation, he developed evil tendencies and terrorizes everyone who dislikes him or stands in his way. Junior has rarely called Billy by his first name, instead calling him cousin.

Piff

Piff first appears as a friend of Billy in the episode Crushed, and can be seen with other students in the background of several later episodes. He is a pony tailed part-goth, part-beatnik, and part-Bohemian kid who wears all-black clothes, stylish sunglasses, a jaunty beret and a distinctive "HATE" belt buckle. He is usually silent, and expresses himself only through his imperious attitude, the occasional raised eyebrow and how he applies his saliva to the situation. His real name is never revealed; "Piff" is the name given to him by Billy when Irwin pointed out that they have to call him by some name.

School Staff

Eleanor Butterbean

Ms. Butterbean is Billy and Mandy's multi-subject teacher. She doesn't seem care about her students despite this, and teaches solely to get her paycheck. She is often seen napping in the class. The lack of enthusiasm might stem from how Goodvibes said she is paid $2.00 an hour.[citation needed]

Principal Goodvibes

"Goodbling" redirects here. For the episode based on Goodbling, see Goodbling and the Hip-Hop-Opotamus.

Principal Goodvibes is the principal of Billy and Mandy's school, with a voice reminiscent of Paul Lynde[citation needed]. His name was legally changed to Goodvibes, and he makes sure that his students feel good to the point of ridiculousness. Apparently, being an educator in the show's universe doesn't pay any better than it does in the reality: Goodvibes secretly lives in his car, which is parked in the school parking lot.

Principal Goodvibes is voiced by Chris Cox.

Billy's Family

Harold

Harold is Billy's father; an overweight man with a large, bulbous nose and a lofty black pompadour hairstyle which he stores his brain in. He strongly resembles his son in appearance, personality, and intelligence. According to a caption in the episode Dream Mutt / Scythe for Sale, Harold is a former Navy SEAL.

Gladys

Billy's mother Gladys is a loving, tolerant and patient, yet mentally unstable, woman despite having to deal with her husband, son, and the presence of the Grim Reaper as her eternal house-guest. She has red hair and is usually seen wearing a floor-length, lavender nightgown. She hates Grim to the point of psychotic obsession she considers him a constant threat to her son's safety. She has a severe facial tic which usually appears when Billy is misbehaving, when her authority is challenged, or whenever Grim is present, most likely developed as a result of her nervous breakdown in episode 1. She is prone to small fits of insanity and obsessive-compulsive episodes.

Nergal

Nergal is a mutant creature who lives in the roasting center of the Earth. He is an all-black supernatural being with green eyes (with purple pupils), a green mouth, green teeth, and green organs, all of which glow. He wears a black tuxedo jacket with a red shirt and black tie. He has several snakes that extend from his back that can electrocute his victims, one time he used his tentacles to turn everyone in Endsville into demons. He is generally considered something of a loser and he often becomes histrionic over his failings. Later in Love is Evol Spelled Backwards, Nergal meets Billy's aunt Sis and ends up marrying her (which now makes him Billy's uncle). He also has a son named Nergal Junior.

Aunt Sis

Aunt Sis is Billy's aunt. She is a sullen-looking woman with glasses, a large nose, and a hairstyle similar to Gladys. She is a spinster (or a "splinter" according to Billy) who has experienced only four-and-a-half minutes of love in her "pathetic, lonely life." In the episode Love is Evol Spelled Backwards, Nergal decided to try and see if she was desperate enough to be his life partner. His attempt was successful, and the two were married.

Billy's pets

Mr. Snuggles

Billy's pet hamster that appeared in the pilot episode. He was a part of the bet that Grim would become Billy and Mandy's best friend if he lost a game of limbo with them. After that he has appeared very little in the series completely disappearing somewhere after the first season.

Milkshakes

Milkshakes is Billy's cat, a male pink feline who is frequently put into unusual situations by the supernatural events that occur in his owner's life. Milkshakes usually shakes any situation off with a calm meow.

Li'l Porkchop

Li'l Porkchop is Billy's German pet fish, first seen in the episode Li'l Porkchop. He was originally pathetically small and hardly breathing, until Grim gave him special fish food out of sympathy for Billy. The food caused him to grow many times his original size, and he began to live without water. Billy didn't realize what was going on and kept putting him into situations with exceedingly hot conditions. Billy eventually flushed him after the heat proved too much, even though the toilet was far too small to fit him. Billy's dad, while fishing, managed to catch him, promptly cooking and eating him. However, he appeared in other episodes.

Mandy's Family

Phil and Claire

Mandy's mom, Claire, has blonde hair and Phillip, her dad, wears glasses. While early in the series they seemed to treat Mandy as a normal child, they now appear to live in a state of paranoid fear of their daughter Mandy, who takes advantage of this, making demands whenever she is at home.

Saliva

Saliva is Mandy's dog. Saliva appears to have lower-than average intelligence, motor skills, and awareness. It's name echoes his propensity for drooling saliva, which he does almost constantly. Saliva is very cowardly in the face of danger, usually hiding behind Mandy. He is rarely shown in the series and is talked about more often.

Grim's Family

Grim's Parents

Grim's father apparently loves country music more than his own son. In Grim's desperation, he dressed up to resemble Willie Nelson and told his father he was a country music star, not the Grim Reaper. However, in an episode before this, Grim's dad knew he was the Grim Reaper. Grim says his three-headed monstrous dog ate his dad. Grim's mother's name is Miriam, and seems to be a genie of some sort.

Granny Grim

Grim's granny is a skeleton with dreadlocks who has a knack for concocting potions and remedies for various ailments. Granny Grim's potions never quite work the way they should, but Grim still turns to her for help occasionally. She constantly talks to her toilet. Granny Grim also has a Jamaican accent.

Cerberus

Cerberus is Grim's out-of-control vicious three-headed dog. One head is youthful, one is middle-aged, and the final head is an elderly dog that resembles a poodle. Grim has stated that Cerberus ate his father, although this does not appear to match with the continuity established in other episodes, where Grim's father appears relatively intact and unharmed.

Irwin's Family

Dick and Judy

While Irwin's father is a normal middle-aged man named Dick, Irwin's mother Judy is a mummy. She lives in a sarcophagus in the basement of Irwin's house, which for unexplained reasons looks like an Egyptian tomb. Irwin's father manages to avoid speaking about. He ends a lot of his sentences with the word "dude". Judging by how he always wears a track suit he might possibly be trying to relive the late 80s early 90s, as evidenced by the speech of him and his son.

Melvin

Melvin is the older brother of Irwin and the eldest child of Dick and Judy. Not much is known of him except that he appeared briefly in the episode "Halls of Time", and mentioned in "Billy and Mandy Begins".

Tanya

Tanya (Granmama) is Irwin's grandmother and Dick's mother. She usually ends sentences with "baby," as Irwin does with "yo," and his father with "dude." She is also the wife of Dracula. Despite her angry demeanor, she seems to care for Irwin, but will sometimes embarrass him. She doesn't like to be challenged or insulted, and has a hatred of hip-hop music.

Dracula

Dracula is Grim's childhood idol and Irwin's grandfather. The once famous vampire lives in the Home Of The Ancients, a retirement home for old Movie Monsters. Dracula talks incredibly fast, and likes to dance. He does not remember names well, and often calls Grim "Skeleton Man" or even "Dummy". He is argumentative and easily distracted. He refers to himself in third person. In the fall of 2006, Dracula became the network's Halloween horror host in puppet form, hosting such events as Billy's Birthday and others. Dracula was yet again a host for the Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure movie. He also made a cameo in the movie itself, during the musical number. Dracula may also be a tribute to the cult film, Blacula. He also bears a resemblance to and sound like Redd Foxx in the show Sanford & Son, particularly in his relationship with Grim.

Other Major characters

Hoss Delgado

Hoss is a spectral exterminator; a hunter of paranormal creatures. He is modeled after Ash, the protagonist of the famed The Evil Dead horror movie trilogy and Snake Plissken, the character portrayed by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter's films "Escape from New York" and "Escape from L.A.". Hoss possesses one real hand and one mechanical one, the latter of which can seemingly produce any tool he desires, most commonly a metal fist. Hoss is the macho, take no prisoners, gung ho, manly figure in Grim Adventures, though in most episodes he acts in a clumsy and/or goofy manner. For a while he dated Eris, goddess of Chaos. Their relationship was very dysfunctional. His surname translated from Spanish ironically means "slender" and his full name is a play on the word "hostile". Hoss is known to make incredibly odd and usually completely irrelevant metaphors, often when talking to someone who is either cowardly or stupid. Similarly he uses exclamatory phrases which are different but recognizable from their original form.

Eris

Eris is the Greek goddess of strife and matron deity of the Discordianism religion, here portrayed as a curvaceous and beautiful, but vindictive, blonde woman with a gap in her teeth. She delights in causing all kinds of chaos, and does a multitude of destructive things. She possesses the powerful Apple of Discord, a golden apple which can transform into any shape to perpetuate chaos. Her accent and behaviour is prone to sudden shifts, from a stereotypical valley girl to a refined British woman. Eris appears in "Wrath of the Spider Queen", attending the same school as Grim, Velma, Nergal, Lord Pain, and Boogey.

Eris' appearance is possibly a reference to Madonna, who is known for her blonde hair and coquettishness, and for adopting a faux English accent. Eris's teeth gap and mole is similar to Madonna's.

For some time, Eris dated Hoss DelGado. Her feelings had the side effect of bringing order to chaos. Destroyed items would merge themselves back together, even if Eris was not around. It is because of this that Mandy decided to restore Chaos by getting Hoss to break up with Eris. Hoss had a hard time dealing with her emotional mood swings and the resulting actions. Grim also had a crush on Eris for a while, but his feelings were unrequited for obvious reasons and she harshly rejected and "dissed" him.

Jeff the Spider

A spider that thinks Billy is his father after he hatched him. Billy fears him and wants him dead, even though Jeff is very friendly and usually tries to get Billy to love him by being nice or giving him gifts to him.

General Reginald Skarr

General Reginald Skarr first appeared in the show Evil Con Carne, where he was Hector Con Carne's military commander. He is usually a cold-hearted, hateful and harsh man, with big interests in power and world domination. Yet when alone, he behaves more calmly, tending to his garden. He has a scar on his face, and has only one eye. Retired from villainy, he moved into Billy and Mandy's neighborhood in the episode Skarred for Life. He is constantly struggling with the temptation to return to his evil ways. He attempts to distract himself usually by gardening.

Skarr bears a striking resemblance to Herr Starr, a key antagonist in Garth Ennis and Steve Dylan's comic book series Preacher.

Boogey Man

An old arch-enemy of Grim's since junior high school, and a school bully. Boogey played pranks on Grim in high school. He returned to visit Grim in Bully Boogie. He is Grim's rival in scaring people, but usually fails in doing so. He is the main villain in the TV movie "Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure" where he had Grim fired and tried to gain Horror's Hand, a device that would make him all powerful and vastly scary. Boogey competed against Grim, Mandy, Billy, Irwin and a Kraken and eventually lost, becoming more of a coward than ever. Boogey appeared in a flashback scene in Billy & Mandy: Wrath of the Spider Queen.

Lord Pain

Grim's servant who comes from the Plane of Eternal Suffering (he later says he is really Charles from the Plane Of Happy Ponies). He first appeared in House of Pain. He was also featured in the opening sequence and Everything Breaks as Mandy's servant. He carries a mace, shield, wears a spiked helmet and he has a red and black cape and turquoise armor. He has tattoos all over his body which originally featured Grim, but was later altered to show his devotion to Mandy.

Underworld Court

Fred Fredburger

Fred is a spring green, elephant-like creature with the devil's horns and tail who has a short attention span, lives in the "underworld, and first appeared in the episode "Keeper of the Reaper". Nevertheless, he appears to mean well or at the very least not bad. This perhaps led to huge popularity with many which in turn led to his appearance in other episodes. His dialogue consists of saying his name constantly and very often and saying "yes" at random times. He also seems to have a strong liking towards frozen yogurt and nachos. He talks in simple English (he also likes spelling words, particularly his own name) and appears to be very idiotic. Fred is usually a positive, good-natured character.

Judge Roy Spleen

Judge Roy Spleen is the Judge of the underworld court. He appears to not be very good at his job as a judge. He and the whole Underworld Court first appeared briefly in the episode Home of the Ancients, but had much more major role in the episode Keeper of the Reaper. He is also seen in Billy & Mandy: Wrath of the Spider Queen as Grim's school teacher and at Jeff's wedding as the priest.

Judge Roy Spleen is voiced by Phil LaMarr. His name was apparently inspired by the famous judge of the Wild West, Roy Bean.[citation needed]

Harvey

A demonic snake that functions as Grim's lawyer. His mannerisms suggest Christopher Walken. In "Home Of The Ancients", he sits next to Grim in the guilty or innocent desk, and in "Keeper of the Reaper", he described the jury's duties to them. His latest appearance is in Hurter Monkey, where his name was revealed as Harvey. His name may be a reference to the title character of Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.

Toadblatt's Summer School of Sorcery

Nigel Planter

A spoof of Harry Potter, Nigel Planter is a boy with glasses and an "L"-shaped pen-mark on his forehead. He's a young whiny wizard from Weaselthorpe House at Toadblatt's School of Sorcery. He often ends up being beaten up but when not close to danger he shows his full overconfidence and a deluded self image, often taking credit for things he did not do. Later on, his voice begins to crack and he is taller after "going through puberty", another Harry Potter reference. Lord Moldybutt stated that his parents were dead, but this conflicts with One Crazy Summoner when Nigel stated that his father has been held back at Toadblatt's for many years.

Dean Toadblatt

Dean Toadblatt is the headmaster of Toadblatt's Summer School of Sorcery. Toadblatt is essentially a large, humanoid toad wearing a purple wizard's robe. He possibly might be a spoof of Albus Dumbledore, although in One Crazy Summoner, most of his dialog is a parody of Dean Wormer, John Vernon's role in "Animal House" He hates Nigel Planter with a passion, a possible allusion to Severus Snape from Harry Potter.

The Squidhat

Parodying the Sorting Hat, the Squidhat is a singing, semi-intelligent (he teaches a number of classes) telepathic squid who decides where a student resides for their years at the school. Like the Dean, he too delights in tormenting Nigel Planter.

Lord Moldy Butt

A spoof of the villain in the Harry Potter series,Lord Voldemort. He gave Nigel a pen mark (which he thought was a scar) when he was young, referring to Harry Potter's lightning scar. Whenever his name is said, great misfortunes happen such as the vicinity becoming completely destroyed. In consequence, people call him "he-who-should-never-ever-be-named".

Other Characters

Ernest

Ernest is General Skarr's insane neighbor who looks to be quite elderly. He stalks Skarr, but at others he seems to be harmless and well meaning. He was first to give a warm welcome to Skarr when he move to the neighborhood.

Sir Raven

A hostile British raven who hosted a few episodes. He wears a fez, a smoking jacket, and carries a golden, jewel-encrusted goblet. Typically he sits by a fire in a library decked out in Edwardian fashion, and comments on the episode at hand. He usually says that he doesn't care for events in an episode. He is most famous for his sudden and often unexpected close-up shots of him yelling loudly.

The Secret Snake Club

A Role Playing Group consisting of three nerdy boys at Endsville Elementary who comprise the "Secret Snake Club". The members alias' include Wiggly, Viper (also known as Jerome), and King Cobra . Their main meeting room is Jerome's family's basement, which is actually his grandmother's bedroom. All three wear long red robes, have secret code names and have poor personal hygiene. Each member of the Secret Snake Club has a "level", as they are RPG fanatics. Together they are committed to their dark agenda: summoning snakes which would devour the cool kids, leaving nerds to rule the earth.
