Stephen E. Thorpe

Stephen Ernest Thorpe (died 24 August 2024)[1] was an Australian-born New Zealand entomologist who contributed vast amounts of data and analysis in many contexts, particularly to iNaturalist.

Death

Thorpe was murdered, apparently by an intruder, at the Blockhouse Bay tennis club and recreation area, where he had an office for his work.[1]

Thorpe had several species named in his honour including:

  • Alloxysta thorpei Ferrer-Suay & Pujade-Villar, 2012[2]
  • Bocchus thorpei Olmi, 2007[3]
  • Cryptoxilos thorpei Shaw & Berry, 2005[4]
