Question
Hi OscarLake, I was just wondering if given that it has been a while since you last edited the adoption page if you still wanted adoption? Thanks, Matty.007 17:12, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I wanna continue with the adoption. It's just that I get lazy towards the end of the summer and stuff like that. I'll be right on it as soon as I become smart again, lol. Speaking of adoption, how are things going along with Dansong? Will you look for another adoptee if he quits? See ya OscarLake (talk) 18:34, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's fine, I was just checking you didn't want to go off on your own. Dansong hasn't responded to a notification of his username, and hasn't edited in about a month, so I have asked on his talk page if he still wants adoption, the same as I did here. I may look for another adoptee soon, if Dansong has quit, but I am quite busy at present, so will likely just take it as it comes. Thanks for the quick response, Matty.007 18:48, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- I do now have a new adoptee, Fort esc (if you're interested}. Thanks, Matty.007 18:05, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Are you still editing (perhaps less regularly)? Thanks, Matty.007 19:12, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Hey, Matt. I've started editing more frequently now. Today, I created two new articles. When's the next assignment coming? OscarLake (talk) 23:25, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- There has been one up for a few weeks if you want to have a go. Thanks, Matty.007 16:08, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, must've overlooked it. I'll get it done either today or tomorrow. OscarLake (talk) 16:10, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
- No problem; there's no rush. Thanks, Matty.007 16:11, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi OscarLake. Looks like my hunch was correct in that the sources for Don Lusk do not qualify as reliable sources, especially for a BLP (see the RSN thread). Can you find anything else to possibly save the article? Canadian Paul 19:48, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
Happy Birthday?
I saw that you changed your age on your userpage... Happy Birthday? Best, Matty.007 10:19, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Actually, my birthday was already on October 13, but I forgot to update it then. But thanks. :)OscarLake (talk) 10:22, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- Have you got a working computer now? Matty.007 10:48, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- If you don't want to be adopted anymore, you only need to say. Best, Matty.007 12:28, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- Matt, as I stated before, my computer is not working. As you can see, I haven't created a single article since November. Instead, I've been able to make "easy" edits via my phone. Edits that mainly requires adding/deleting some text. Other stuff, like adding references proved more tedious without a laptop, I tried...I guess putting improvement tags, which the adoption assignment requires, would also be kinda hard via a phone. Sure, I could just buy a new computer, but I have many important documents in my old one, so it's sent for reparation. But I'll see if I can borrow my sister's or someone else's just to finish the task to get it over with. OscarLake (talk) 13:46, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't realise that you still didn't have a computer. I saw that you were editing, but the 'Mobile edit' tag wasn't showing, and you were editing. No need to hurry, there's no rush. Hope you have a great 2014, best, Matty.007 14:47, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
The Exemplary Adoptee Barnstar | ||
OscarLake, you were a great adoptee and I wish you all the best wherever you edit. Best, Matty.007 17:09, 3 February 2014 (UTC) |
Your edit has been reverted. Gabor's year of birth is widely held to be 1917. If, however, you have solid evidence to the contrary, please provide same as a valid reflink. Thanks. Quis separabit? 14:13, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- You know, I think it's kind of disrespectful of the user TFBCT1 to disregard the source I provided, without explaining why he considers it inadequate yet he didn't remove the reference link. It's obvious that he didn't check out the link, because it supports 1918 as year of birth.
- Think about it...An official American shipping document that's dated June 2, 1941 gives her age as 23 years old (her birthday is in February).
- Does this document triumph the majority of sources that give 1917 as birth year? Yes! The closer a document is to birth, the more accurate it is regarded as. Even gerontologists who study supercentenarians apply this type of "age measurement" methods called "the 20-year window". Naturally, a birth record would be ideal, but those are only found in Hungary, so...
- Btw, while most sources say 1917, many of them are quick to emphasize that this isn't set in stone.
- But whatever, I'm not gonna revert again. If no one's convinced, then I'll just let it be...But remove the reference at least. Thanks. OscarLake (talk) 15:47, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- I apologize if I acted too rashly. I see your point about the shipping document. Yes I agree that a 24 year old wouldn't likely feel the need to make herself a year younger, although many actors have been found (after death before the Internet) to have been a year or two older than they claimed. I am not sure however if we should change the year based on the shipping document alone, but I may add a note that some sources indicate she may have been born in 1918. Thanks for your vigilance. Quis separabit? 23:39, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- No worries :) I agree with the compromise of at least mentioning the shipping document. I have another document from 1960 that (I think) says 1918, but it could just as easily say "1928" instead so I'm not sure. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-22440-69064-76?cc=1932363&wc=M947-1FC:n987176291 OscarLake (talk) 23:54, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Viola Stimpson
I have no idea what criteria you use for your "Oldest Hollywood actors" list, but it seems to be missing Viola Stimpson. I have no idea if she's notable or not, but I thought that I would point it out. Canadian Paul 00:52, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, Paul. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into her later. So far, I've only put actors that have their own Wikipedia page. But I'm prepared to make exceptions if I'm convinced that they really reached their claimed age. As for notability, I'm fairly lenient in that aspect. OscarLake (talk) 16:45, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi Oscar, can you please provide a reliable source for this edit? Otherwise it has to be reverted. The same applies to Héctor Vilches. Thanks and regards --RonaldH (talk) 15:16, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hey! Sorry, I forgot to add references when I made all those edits. I found the information on this page: http://baudoscampeoes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/copa-do-mundo-de-1950-no-brasil.html
- While it is a blog, the information looks accurate to me. 15:26, 5 March 2014 (UTC)OscarL
Enjoy your list of longest living actors/actress
And some of the other ones-something I was also wondering if you can ever do it is something like "list of longest since there film debut" I don't mean just living but those who died too (IE there first film was in 1912 and they died in 2010). (As well as other people who were in films if possible, and longest living after they won a Oscar)
Well one Munchkin remains meanwhile. Wgolf (talk) 04:44, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- Glad you enjoy them, Wgolf! Your idea sounds interesting but I'm not sure Wikipedia allows too many userpages that aren't in mainspace. I have 4 already. However, if you start up such a page on your userspace, then we can work on the list together. What do you think? OscarL 15:24, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
Welcome-you know one problem with the longest career thing is that quite a few are non consistent, like Anita Page, she had a long break making it look a lot longer. As opposed to Mickey Rooney (and Ernest Borgnine who I thought for sure be listed, but nope was not). Wgolf (talk) 15:46, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- It would be impossible for me to draw the line. What if one actor was consistent except for a 22 year long absence in the 80s for example? It's easier to count the years between first and last role. Borgnine only had a 60 year long career; he had been in the navy for 10 years prior to that. OscarL 00:44, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
Whatever you feel of the relative merits of WP:BLPPRIMARY, it is a policy and is crystal clear about the use of census information for living people. I know that you are aware that BLP violations are taken very seriously at Wikipedia, so please respect the community's policy on this issue. If you have a reliable that discusses her birth year as being 1913 or her centenary, then by all means add it, but primary sources (and IMDB, for that matter) are unacceptable for biographies of living people. Canadian Paul 00:22, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- I understand what the policy states; what I don't get is why it exists. Is it a matter of privacy? The 1920 census is a public record, we're not releasing anything confidential or anything. Do you want me to change back Mary Carlisle's age to 1912 again as well? If 1918 stays, then I will personally never come to Ellen's page again because it contains wrong information about her. She is not listed 2 years old in the 1920 census is she? Sigh... OscarL 00:29, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- If you don't like the policy, then take it up on the policy page, don't revert because you don't agree. You've been here long enough to know that Wikipedia operates on community consensus, as well as verifiability over truth, not what you personally feel is "correct". If you're going to contribute to Wikipedia, you have to accept maturely the fact that things won't always go your way and work towards convincing others that your view is correct through proper channels. As for your "threat", put it in this context: Wikipedia has turned down potentially millions of dollars to ensure that its policies remain consistent and community-based. They won't be abandoned for the benefit of any one user. Canadian Paul 21:12, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- You're right, Paul. Sorry for the little "outburst" earlier. If the community has reached consensus on a policy, then I should respect that even if I don't agree with it. Since we both edit on similar articles, we should cooperate rather than argue. Speaking of that, I've found a few sources that proves John Rodney's death in 1996. You can check his talkpage and see if you want to remove him from your nonagenarians list or not. Cheers! OscarL 21:36, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Rodney's case is pretty borderline. My personal interpretation is that the source (his daughter) is good enough and there's enough leeway with WP:IAR that it can probably stay as is. But if someone else comes by with a different perspective and removes it, don't be surprised; it's likely to be a legitimate concern. In any case, he will be removed off my personal list. Canadian Paul 19:32, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- Another name you should remove from your list is Totti Truman Taylor. Check her page for death reference. OscarL 08:45, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
Possibly living
I've responded to your question at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#Question about Possibly living people. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:18, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure you've seen the mess being created at List of centenarians (actors, filmmakers and entertainers). I suspect that some of these (Germaine Auger, Tatzumbia Dupea, and Gustave Field) are hoaxes of the ilk of Loni Nest and Louise Henry (actress) that are being given legitimacy by mixing them in with genuine centenarians such as Mabel Richardson and Horacio Coppola. I know you were working with this issue off-Wikipedia, so I thought I'd bring this to your attention in case you wanted to pass it on. Canadian Paul 02:34, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I noticed that. And as you say, I'm familiar with a few of those names off-Wikipedia; I started a thread about Germaine Auger when I was new at 110 Club. We couldn't verify her her as supercentenarian or even centenarian. Besides, she would probably fail an AfD nomination. Dupea's SSDI suggests a final age of 96 but I suspect an even lower age than that. You know, the hoaxes of Nest, Henry and Illery has made me more skeptic of sources in general. Some others discussed the matter on the forum Nitrateville, so I'll stop by every now and then to see if anything else becomes revealed. OscarL 06:38, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Is there a list of longest living people in films not including actors/actress?
Like people who are editors, even set decorators, ect. I do know that these people are alive: Elmo Williams-editor, age 101,John B. Mansbridge-art director, age 97, Peter Berkos-Sound editor, age 92. But yeah it be a interesting list. (Which today a interesting case happened with this guy Hal Gausman, he was long featured as dead but I found some evidence that he was alive and born in 34 but then the German wiki says he died and was born in 1917, I have it on the talk page)
Oh and here is a guy I'm pretty sure is at least 90-John Poyner.
I have been moving quite a few in and out of the possibly living the past few days also.
Wgolf (talk) 00:48, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for these suggestions, Wgolf. I'll look into them when I have time. For now, I only include actors/actresses, but I guess an additional list of miscellanous people in the film industry could be a good idea. OscarL 01:44, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! I found quite a few that are 90 or that are close or might be. (One guy who was nominated for the first Star Trek movie in art direction has no age listed-but his picture on another site makes me think he is at least 80. While there is one guy who worked on Patton that is in his 90s!)
Need help with Tracy Stratford
I need help with the Tracy Stratford article. Is there a WikiProject for the Twilight Zone that could help us? Paul Austin (talk) 10:07, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, sorry for the belated reply. Unfortunately, I don't know who she is and I've never watched the Twilight Zone before. You could ask over at the tearoom (or whatever it's called). Lol. Good luck. OscarL 22:37, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Shep Houghton
Hey Oscar. I added some more information about Shep Houghton at the Simple English. Do you think he is notable enough. I did some research and I found he is indeed notable (my opinion). I added more sources. Can you review it to see if I can create the article here? Thanks. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 02:01, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, I'm not sure. The last time it failed afD, there were literally zero articles about him. But on his 100th birthday, there was a lengthy article about him (second source in English Wikipedia). The problem about notability remains though; he was uncredited in 99% of his movies according to IMDb. See if you can ask an admin such as Canadian Paul for input. OscarL 22:41, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Birthdate of Barbara Perry
Hello OscarLake,
I noticed that you created the article Barbara Perry and that you gave his birthdate to be June 22, 1923. But on the U.S.Census 1930 made in April 1930 she is 8 years old. And on an immigration document from Febuary 1941 they write that Barbara Perry from Norfolk, Virginia, is 19 years old and is born June 22, 1921. I believe that, like many others actresses from this era, she skipped some years to when entering Hollywood and that she is really born in 1921. Here is the document from 1941 that says she was born June 22, 1921 (you click on the document photo to view and on the "+" to enlarge to see better) -> https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:24L8-5YS What did you think, my friend? Thank you if you had read me. --Danielvis08 (talk) 12:20, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, Daniel. Thank you for this interesting information. It does indeed seem that 1921 is a more likely birth date than 1923, based on those documents. Also, a 1940 census should also be available on FamilySearch, so we can look at what it says too. Having said that, I'm not sure it is encouraged by Wikipedia policies to use census data/official personal documents as a reliable sources on biographies for living people. At least that's my understanding from a past dispute I had with an administrator once. What I would suggest it that you paste your text onto the Barbara Perry talk page in order to involve other users in the discussion. I had a look at the existing sources and none, except for IMDb, seem to state any birth year at all. So, we might be able to change it through communit consensus. Best regards, Oscar. I think I have exhausted my resources for the Bobbie Wygant article. I enjoyed learning about her as I found a variety of articles. Eddie Blick (talk) 02:05, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- Teblick, thank you very much for your contributions. You've done an excellent work with expanding her article. With a great hook idea, this could easily be a good DYK candidate. I had seen several of her interviews in the past, but it took a while before paying attention to the interviewer herself. As it turns out, she has had a fascinating career and is truly a television pioneer who is still here to tell us all about it. I was thinking that we could have a subsection for her celebrity interviews, since that's been a major part of her notability. Maybe mentioning some of the stars she interviewed (without going overboard with name-dropping, because the list is never-ending), if she had a characteristic interview style, the average duration of her interviews, etc. if any sources mention these things at all.
- I had not thought about a subsection to focus on celebrity interviews, but it's a good idea. She certainly had lots of them. Eddie Blick (talk) 00:36, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
DYK for Bobbie Wygant

Your research on Charles Edward Graves
Dear OscarLake,
Please make sure to submit your recent research on Charles Edward Graves's (1888-1999) case to the Gerontology Research Group and to LongeviQuest.
Best regards,

- I mean both the 1892 and the 1896 school census entries that you have found for him/his siblings. 68.4.99.100 (talk) 21:10, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- I don't have the time or energy to do a validation report for this case. Would you mind doing it? I know that GS already sent an application years ago, but I think it's best do one from scratch (especially to LQ). And you are more than familiar with the details, so... 1892 & 1896. - Once I'll get access to my e-mail again, sure, I can try doing this. I have a question, though: How did you find the e-mail address for the Mississippi chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution? What website did you find their e-mail address on? 68.4.99.100 (talk) 20:54, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

- Also, as a side note, since you had already made contact with them, twice, can you please ask them if they have school census data for any other year within the first 20 years of Mr. Graves's lifetime (1888-1908)? I don't think that they do, because I haven't found any other school census books for Jones County, but maybe there's something that I'm unaware of. 68.4.99.100 (talk) 20:48, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, I would like to know the specific page numbers of the school census books for 1892 and 1896 where Charles' family was listed. 2600:8803:C115:EED0:E8F6:8430:4171:14DD (talk) 03:09, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

- The 1892 book is on page 66 and the 1896 book on page 108. But I think the biggest challenge is finding out which date (or even just month) these ages were written down. OscarL 13:16, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

2007–08 Udinese Calcio season moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, 2007–08 Udinese Calcio season, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Sakiv (talk) 23:53, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi User:Sakiv. I think it is highly inappropriate to move an article to draftspace without it going through the AfD process. Who are you to single-handedly decide to take it off the mainspace? This is not something that is usually done and I will seek for other opinions. Secondly, the article has two sources that support the listed first team squad. It also links to that overall Serie A season, making things like league position verifiable. More importantly, nothing contentious has been included which makes this course of action a sign of power abuse in my opinion. A football season at the highest level in Italy cannot fail an article for deletion, so you had no real basis on which to move it even if temporarily. Also, Wikipedia is filled with articles where there is room for all sorts of improvements. Why would it be such a bad thing to just let it be and allow me to improve it while in mainspace? What possible damage does it do really? I don't get it. Very discouraging, because I don't have a track record of making low-quality edits on Wikipedia in my ten years. As I said, one single editor should not have the power to move it without discussing with others first. I will definitely file a complaint somewhere, unless you have a second opinion after reading this. Have a good day.OscarL 06:07, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
- Other editors, including the author of the page, but excluding editors with a conflict of interest, have a right to object to draftifying the page. If an editor raises an objection, move the page back to mainspace and, if necessary, list it at AfD. A page may only be moved unilaterally to the draftspace a single time. If anyone objects, it is no longer an uncontroversial move, and the page needs to be handled through other processes, such as deletion, stubbing, tagging, etc.
It says on Wikipedia:Drafts#Objections that you should move it back to mainspace if there are objections. Take it to AfD if you really think it's that bad. OscarL 06:17, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

An article you recently created, 2005–06 Udinese Calcio season, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. - Please read what I wrote to Sakiv. Who are you to move articles without getting community consensus first? And again, an article does not need to be perfect from start. It takes time for it to grow and expand, and such a process CAN take place in mainspace. It's like I'm dealing with bots here, not actual humans. Weird...OscarL 18:15, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Categories
Hi there, all well?
Seeing what i saw in (for instance) Jonathan Viera, the following: please do not add the "Footballers from the Canary Islands" category to articles, it is considered (in this case) a sub-category for "Footballers from Las Palmas".
Happy editing! RevampedEditor (talk) 17:33, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Revamp. What if I (or someone else) want to find out which footballers were from the Canary Islands. Then I'd have to go through each individual island. And how can a bigger region be a sub-category of a smaller one? I'm not sure what Wikipedia policy is regarding sub-categories, but I feel like different layers should be used to collect different information. I guess I just don't understand it...OscarL 19:00, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
I see where you are coming from, totally. But it's the guidelines of the site that determine it. You can ask any football-linked admin for confirmation (i.e. :@GiantSnowman:). If i'm not seeing it correctly, then i apologise to anyone concerned.
Regards --RevampedEditor (talk) 17:50, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but the category has 84 articles. With your argument, shouldn't the category have zero instead? I mean, all 84 players are from one or another Canary island, no? Guidelines or not, without a convincing counter-argument, I will re-add the category to the players. I have been editing here for ten years and have never come across what you are bringing up. Sorry. OscarL 15:51, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
PS. Since you were the one to bring this up, I would be glad if you could link me those guidelines you refer to.
- No worries, i'll only relocate them (to be next to "Footballers from X/Y") if that's OK with you. I have come across several of such examples, but now just can't find one even though i browsed several articles. I guess you could have waited for the admin's reply (i pinged him, so he should come here any day), but no worries. I also see where you are coming from with the "84 categories" reasoning, but that does not necessarily mean they are correct(ly) inserted.
Sorry for any inconvenience, continue the good work --RevampedEditor (talk) 17:14, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Ah, got it! See for instance here (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chico_Flores&diff=prev&oldid=1039255136), "Footballers from Andalusia" AND "Sportspeople from Cádiz" both removed, replaced by "Footballers from Cádiz". --RevampedEditor (talk) 17:50, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
