The current administrative Flintshire came into existence in [[1996]]. Flintshire is also a [[traditional county]] of Wales, which was abolished for administrative purposes in [[1974]]. The historic county does not have the boundaries of modern administrative Flintshire, in particular it has a large [[exclave]] called [[Maelor Saesneg]], it also includes [[Prestatyn]] and [[Rhyl]] which are now administered by Denbighshire.
