Birupa River holds historical and religious significance in coastal Orissa. The river was a popular destination for pilgrims visiting [[Buddhism|Buddhist]] shrines, and it also served as a route for [[Bhikkhu|Buddhist monks]] traveling to [[Sri Lanka|Ceylon]] and [[Java]].
