In 1960, Hoffman married Sheila Karklin,<ref name="lifetimes"/> and had two children, Andrew (born 1960) and Amy (1962–2007), who later went by the name Ilya; she killed herself {{citation needed}}. Hoffman and Karklin divorced in 1966.
