|ShortSummary = Guiding the injured caribou man back to his home, Gus finally reunites with Birdie who is shocked and overjoyed at the return of her adopted son. The caribou man, Munaq, reveals to Gus that when Thacker came to Alaska, he did something in a cave that led to the Sick and his birth. Having seen the worst of humanity, Munaq tells Gus that the Sick is the cure to the true disease: humanity itself before dying from his injuries. At Birdie's research station, Jepperd rallies the outpost into stopping Zhang's forces from powering up a drilling machine to take what was in the cave, reuniting with Becky and Wendy in the process. Gus figures out the location of the cave and he and Birdie prepare to leave before someone starts knocking on the door.

|ShortSummary = Furious at Birdie's death, Gus declares that Zhang and humanity don't deserve to live. When Zhang orders Singh to kill Gus again, he becomes furious after she invokes Rani's name and decides not to kill Gus. Meanwhile, Becky purposefully drives the drilling machine to crash, killing the driver, Jordan, in the process. Refusing to admit defeat, Zhang attempts to kill Gus with an axe embedded in the tree only for the sap to cause all humans to catch the Sick. After having a final conversation with Richard due to the tree, Gus sets the tree on fire, healing everyone. The cave however, begins to collapse and Singh sacrifices himself to save Gus, who escapes along with Jepperd, Zhang, and some of her men. Disillusioned by her actions, Zhang's men and Rosie abandon her, realizing that nature has granted the future to the hybrids. Gus and his friends return to Yellowstone, where they build a sanctuary for the hybrids. Years later, an elderly Gus recounts his tales to a new generation of hybrids which includes his and Wendy's grandchildren.
