A [[Rugby union positions#Scrum-half|halfback]], Forster represented [[Hawke's Bay Rugby Football Union|Hawke's Bay]] and {{Rut|Otago}} at a provincial level, and the [[Otago Highlanders]] in the first two years of [[Super Rugby]].
