The Junee Locomotive Depot was built by the [[New South Wales Government Railways]] when the line from [[Sydney]] opened to Junee in 1878. On 29 September 1947, a 42 road, fully covered [[Railway roundhouse|roundhouse]] was completed. This was the last steam locomotive depot built by the [[New South Wales Government Railways]]. As well as being the depot for locomotives on various branch lines, it was strategically important being located half-way between Sydney and [[Melbourne]]. The building features a {{convert|100-foot|ft|m|1|adj=on}} [[Railway turntable|turntable]], and part is still used for commercial reconditioning and the rebuilding of locomotives.

The museum's displays include a working steam-driven [[New South Wales X10 class locomotive#Breakdown Cranes|accident crane 1080]], a water [[tank wagon]] which was part of a breakdown train, a [[Railway post office|mail car]], several [[miniature trainstrain]]s, [[Steam tricycle|trikes]], steam locomotives [[New South Wales Z24 class locomotive|2413]] and [[New South Wales C36 class locomotive|3609]], two [[New South Wales U set|U-set]] [[power car]]s, diesel locomotive [[New South Wales 48 class locomotive|4872]].
