"It's not so much that nature heals us, but our disconnection from nature that makes us sick". The beautiful willow tree in the photo is where I go and lie under when I feel stressed, a bit sad, just out of sorts or even in need of a little inspiration. Naturally grounding while also looking up into the vast canopy of the swaying tree and hearing the symphony of subtle sounds at play all around is deeply calming and tends to bring my mind back to the present moment. It's as if we can reconnect with the true essence of our world, not the superficial overlay we have increasingly created. With that reconnection time slows and life just is. There is so much at play when we are present in nature, where by direct skin contact with the earth’s surface we are tapping into a natural and therapeutic energy source. By connecting directly to the earth, our bodies can freely absorb free electrons - an amazing source of antioxidants that benefit our health and wellbeing and reduce stress. Just the close proximity of trees can profoundly impact our well-being, fortify our immune system, reduce stress and enhance mental and physical health. It's no coincidence the likes of Plato and Aristotle did their best thinking wandering the ancient olive groves, while Buddha is said to have found enlightenment sat beneath a Bodhi tree. In countries such as Japan, forest bathing or Shinrin Yoku is now regularly prescribed as a treatment for all sort of mental and physical conditions. Patients being sent to forests clinics and sent to ground barefoot with the healing aspects of the forest and nature. Sound can play an important aspect too. Our senses are on constant but unconscious alert. This is partly hereditary, going back to a time when we were much more in tune with our senses for feedback on safety and danger. When birds sing it's because they feel safe in their environment, when they stops it's because something isn't right or safe. Subconsciously we have evolved with this and are aware of the unseen meaning - when the bird's sing our nervous system eases into a parasympathetic state as we also feel safe within our environment and we can relax and unwind. Having daily contact with some aspect of nature - such as a willow tree can make all the difference to daily health and wellbeing. #biodiversity #miyawakimethod #restoration #reforestation #nature #naturebasedsolutions #permaculture #regen #regenerative #syntropic #gaia #shinrinyoku #forestbathing #forest

  • Thank you for visiting Tartu for the Free and Open Source for Geospatial Europe (FOSS4GE) conference. OSGeo is the largest and most important international professional association that gathers developers and users of free and open source geoinformation software. See https://lnkd.in/esEt8g4t for the results.

Finally I find some time to reflect on the FOSS4G Europe 2024 conference that I attended last week in Tartu, Estonia together with other 450 people passionate about #opensource #geospatial software. 🌐 #FOSS4G conferences have always been among my favourite ones! The one in Tartu has been my 10th international (global or European) FOSS4G attended - the first one was back in 2011! 🖥 As always, the three main conference days were packed with parallel tracks showcasing the maturity of the open source geospatial ecosystem: new technological advances, scientific applications, policy support and implementation of standards (OGC APIs from The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and STAC were by far the most mentioned). Great keynotes from Athina Trakas, Jaak Laineste, Stefanie Lumnitz and Jakub Nowosad reminded the underlying values and needs of open source: transparency, collaboration, open mindset, governance, community management, communication and outreach, etc. 📑 All presentations are available from the conference program (https://lnkd.in/dp6UjeZf) and all recordings are already online (https://lnkd.in/d2qm4fWZ). 🔹 I co-organised the European Track 🇪🇺 happened on July 4 and dedicated to European applications of FOSS4G and discussions on relevant EU policies and initiatives. I also co-organised the Academic Track 🎓 together with Evelyn Uuemaa and Marco Ciolli, selecting the 21 contributions presented at the conference and the corresponding papers published in the ISPRS Archives (https://lnkd.in/dXmzETKu). 🔹 I gave two presentations: a Python-based analysis of non-governmental open building datasets performed with Sara Thabit and Lorenzo Gabrielli (slides: https://lnkd.in/dhdp-ARM, paper: https://lnkd.in/dbwrTpda), and a procedure using Large Language Models to extract insights from the European database of public procurements (slides: https://lnkd.in/d23tizc7) developed with Lorenzo Gabrielli and Alexander Kotsev. If you are interested in any of them, happy to talk! 👥 As always, a beautiful part of the conference has been the community! In addition to many old colleagues and friends, it was great to meet and exchange ideas with so many new and enthusiastic people that I’m sure will give a lot to geospatial open source in the years to come. 🇪🇪 Last but not least, big kudos to the sponsors and to the Local Organising Team: Tõnis Kärdi, Merli Ilves, Evelyn Uuemaa, Alexander Kmoch, all their colleagues and the volunteers working behind the scenes for putting together a great event! 📸 credits: Andres Tennus

Circular Economist | Motivational Speaker | "Inspiring 111 million"

This circular building recycles its air 💨♻️ And How long's the running track?👇 The project 'Basecamp Lyngby' has helped Danish city Lyngby to win the Green Cities Europe Award 2023. A place, where design, convenience and sustainability are in harmony. What stands out for me? 1️⃣ Intergenerational Living: The complex uniquely brings together students, doctoral candidates, and seniors, fostering a diverse and vibrant community. 2️⃣ Waste Minimisation and Reuse: The building extensively uses recycled materials, particularly in its facade. The materials are not only sustainable but can also be reused repeatedly, embodying the principles of a circular economy. 3️⃣ Recycled Air Systems: The heating and ventilation system utilizes recycled air, significantly reducing energy consumption and waste. This system captures and reuses 90% of the energy from extracted air to heat fresh air, enhancing energy efficiency and minimizing waste. 4️⃣ Rainwater Harvesting: The complex includes rainwater storage facilities that collect and store rainwater for various uses, such as natural irrigation and reducing the burden on the sewage system. This practice not only conserves water but also minimises waste. Wanna live like this?🏘️🌳 PS: The running track is 800 meters long #circulareconomy #zerowaste #linkedintopvoices

🎉 As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we asked a range of stakeholders to reflect on our achievements during this time. 🇮🇳 MOUSUMI SARANGI is Fair Wear’s Country Manager for India, one of the production countries we work in. Fair Wear has been active in India, the second-largest garment exporting country worldwide, since 2003. Among other labour and human rights issues, India faces challenges of gender inequity. Fair Wear — alongside a range of local partners — has been training factory management and workers since 2013, focusing on the prevention of gender-based violence and the establishment of Internal Complaints Committees. Complaints hotlines are also available in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bangla and English. https://lnkd.in/eFR2CW2c #humanrightsduediligence #duediligence #supplychainengagement #garmentindustry
