Compliance with invoicing regulations is important for ensuring legal conformity and financial integrity of your business. Invoice compliance requirements can vary across different countries or regions, and Stripe Invoicing doesn’t automatically apply compliance requirements for your country or region to the invoices you create. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the laws and requirements specific to the country where you conduct business. To make sure your invoices are compliant and adhere to applicable geographic and business regulations, Stripe recommends consulting your tax and legal advisors for compliance advice specific to your business.
Currency requirements
Use the multi-currency customers feature to bill the same customer using a different currency than their default currency. Your invoice specifies the currency used and can specify if amounts need conversion for international transactions.
Tax requirements
Many countries require the inclusion of seller and buyer tax identification numbers. For example, the Value Added Tax (VAT) ID in the European Union (EU) or the Goods and Services Tax (GST). You must understand how VAT or GST is applied and reported, because various countries have different rates and rules.
If a transaction isn’t subject to tax, you must state the reason for not applying it. For example, if the tax liability shifts to your customer, you must mention it as a “reverse charge” on the invoice. In the case of an EU business selling to another EU business, you must mention “zero-rated intra-Community supply.” To include these references in your invoice, add a custom field under Advanced options in the Invoice Editor.
Tax-exclusive prices with Stripe Tax
To display tax-exclusive prices with Stripe Tax, select No under Include tax in price to exclude tax. This excludes tax in prices in the invoice PDF, on the Invoice Details page, and in the invoice email.
You can also select Yes under Include tax in price, then select Display tax-exclusive prices in the Items Options dialog of the Items section. This excludes tax in prices in the invoice PDF, but includes tax on the Invoice Details page and in the invoice email.
