When you run out of lighter value colors you'll have to switch to white to lighten the rest of the way. Option 2 - Just add white. Option 1 helps keep your colors as vibrant as possible as you lighten them. Option 2 will desaturate your color as you lighten it. Which option do you use? . . . #arttips #artist #arttutorials✏️🎨 #arttutorial #paintmixing #painting #colortheory #colorwheel #mixingcolor #saturation #value #colorchart #colourwheel #colourstudy #colourmixing #artoftheday #artistsoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #howtopaint #artlesson #artlessons #howtopaint #beginnerartshelp #tip #tutorial #hu Watercolor Paint, Run Out, Color Wheel, New Directions, Painting Tips, Art Tips, A Color, Color Theory, Art Techniques

🖌️ Artists in the Renaissance mastered light and shadow with limited pigments. Then came Isaac Newton’s color wheel in 1666, explaining colors of light. 🌟

🎨 By the 20th century, with new pigments emerging, artists needed better ways to describe colors. Albert Munsell created a system that breaks color into:

🔴 Hue – Color name
⚖️ Value – Lightness/darkness
💥 Chroma – Intensity

He even created a 3D “color solid” to show every hue, value, and chroma. 🌀 Meanwhile, Josef Albers explored how hues change with surroundings. 🎨

Modern artists still use these tools to master color in painting and design. ✨
