Gujarat Embroidery Cloth, India

This is an antique Surat area embroidery from Gujarat, Indian in sumptuous green and pink dyed silk. The pink silk is cochineal and the green is from a combination of indigo and a yellow bearing plant. The design is in a beautiful boteh design filled with small flowers and framed by long serrated leaves forming a column between each boteh. It was probably made as a shawl with the boteh, or paisley, designs being on the end of the shawl or a hanging in and of itself with two pieces joined together to make a longer panel. The back is in a plain cotton fabric. This particular piece is exceptional and stunningly beautiful. -Wonderful natural colors -Silk embroidery -Elegant boteh motifs
