Long bone anatomy

The purpose of a labeled diagram is very simple -- provide the context of a diagram to the viewer. Since it becomes difficult for the readers to understand the diagram without context, labeling them would be an important key here.

Bones are resilient to heat because of a calcium mineral component in the bone called hydroxyapatite. It breaks down at temperatures above 1100 celcius.

This picture shows the general anatomy of a long bone. It is composed of an outer shell called dense bone (cortical bone). Inside is the marrow cavity or medullary cavity which houses the bone marrow. At the ends of the bone the space has spongy bone as well as some in the shaft. The diaphysis provides leverage while the epiphysis is enlarged to add strength to the joint. The joint surface has articular cartilage which allows for joint movement.

Bone structure refers to the anatomy of a bone - the parts of the bone.
