Vectorize the heraldic badge of the Football Association

Checkmark This section is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, replace this template with your comment. Designism (talk) 23:36, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

Article(s): en:Coat of arms of the Football Association, etc.

Request
Please vectorize the heraldic badge of the Football Association, blazoned:

A representation of the Football Association Cup encircled by a chaplet of olive leaves proper

The badge is visible beneath the coat of arms on plate № 3a of Phillips, David Llewelyn (Spring 2015). "Badges and 'Crests': The Twentieth-century Relationship Between Football and Heraldry". The Coat of Arms, the Journal of the Heraldry Society XI part 1 (229): 35–50. The trophy should of course closely resemble the actual FA cup as much as possible in outline shape. Graphist opinion(s)
@GPinkerton: here you go. (talk) 23:32, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@: pretty good, thanks. I wonder if you could do a bit more detail on the cup; your work on that gauntlet at Commons:Graphic Lab/Illustration workshop#Ukrainian general staff brigade insignia leads me to believe you can do even better. Otherwise it could be left as is, since it meets the blazon just as well. GPinkerton (talk) 13:08, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I currently have no plan to polish this further (unless there's something seriously wrong about it). I think the queue on this page is getting pretty long, and I am not in particular hyped about the aesthetics of this trophy. Designism (talk) 00:57, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question this flag looks like an old banner of arms, but this article suggests the flag was designed by Graham Bartram (@GrahamPadruig: ). Is there any more information available? GPinkerton (talk) 21:11, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GPinkerton: Well, from what I've gathered, the cross-impaling-the-dragon's-head is indeed part of the arms attributed to Saint Margaret of Antioch (if you go on this page here, and scroll down to the "Arms Associated With Saints" section, and then on to the part about "St Margaret of Antioch", you'll see what I mean), but not the crowned portcullis. Which leads me to believe that it was indeed Graham Bartram who designed the modern flag of the COSM, and that it was his decision to add the crowned portcullis onto what is otherwise (as you said) a banner of arms. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 02:19, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian: That is very helpful. I suppose the first step would be a vectorization of the dragon's head arms of St Margaret, after which it will be easy to make up the flag and possibly the various Norfolk arms associated with it. GPinkerton (talk) 17:25, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. I found these patterns to be above the British TOO. Please show evidence that these flags belong to the public domain in the UK, or that they can be assembled using elements already in the public domain. (talk) 17:39, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please create an alternative version File:Flag map of Zimbabwe.svg with the former flag of Rhodesia (1964–1968), thx. ColorfulSmoke (talk) 20:39, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)

Question Plz, describe more detail what you mean "with the former"?

@Bazylevnik0: I'm fairly sure that @ColorfulSmoke: is merely referring to the fact that the 1964–1968 Rhodesian flag is an historical flag. Sure, given that Rhodesia no longer exists as a nation (being now called Zimbabwe and all), all the national flags it ever had would technically be "historical" as well, but you get the idea. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 00:10, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question Not really get, do you mean: task is make Flag map of Zimbabwe(colors, lines, star, picture) with form(map) of Rhodesia?

@Bazylevnik0: I'm quite certain the User wants a new map created, one that has the shape of modern Zimbabwe, but is coloured in with the elements (Union Jack, sky blue background and coat of arms) of the 1964–1968 Rhodesian flag. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 12:40, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done  Question

@Bazylevnik0: Nice work. Although I think the User would probably prefer it to look more like this example here, albeit with a sky blue background instead of a dark blue background. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 16:18, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I made a mistake for this image. In this image I reproduced Hebrew texts from BabelMap, based on my speculate from previous image by RickMorais, which is vectorized from somewhere else, and I used the Taamey Ashkenaz font (source) to generate that. BUT today I feel something weird while I look at this image, however I can't find the proper source for this coat of arms so I'm unable to sure what the exact spelling of this text, even through I've already seen some informations about the Tetragrammaton. It would be nice if anyone else could give a hand here. -- Great Brightstar (talk) 13:24, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Here (and here) I see נ֞ררר or maybe ב֞ררר / כ֞ררר. All of those have no meaning in Hebrew. The first option seems more suitable visually. Do you have other versions of this, or information about its source? —מקף ෴‏‏ (Hyphen) 16:51, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I did a little searching, and found this site:
If it's the same thing, it looks like there were some glitches when the initial file was created.
The word written there is Yahweh (Q766677) in hebrew. —מקף ෴‏‏ (Hyphen) 17:00, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is brilliant! @Great Brightstar: please see the remarks above. Designism (talk) 17:16, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If the problem is that the pattern is too complex, you can replace the fine diagonal stitching lines with long stripes of a color lying in between. After submitting the request, I found this file . And thanks for taking care of it. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 07:02, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help on Coat of Arms

Checkmark This section is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, replace this template with your comment. Designism (talk) 19:36, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Hey there, I'm working on some heraldry regarding Dukedoms which don't have their Coat of Arms completed. I created the Duke of Bedford here: . I was wondering anyone would be able to help me out and give some assistance, if able that would be amazing! Cheers, Coldstreamer20 (talk) 20:49, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion
@Coldstreamer20: While I am by no means a heraldric expert, I noticed a few places where I think your COA can be fairly easily improved:
  1. There are some color mismatches, given the blazon provided in the file description.
    1. For the crest, you have "A goat statant argent, armed and unguled or." So the horn and the hoofs of the animal shall be gold, not green.
    2. The supporter "Dexter, a lion rampant gules", but you are using a golden lion. Maybe you will want to reuse the lion on the shield?
    3. The other supporter "sinister, a goat argent, armed unguled and bearded or." I don't know if this means the beard also needs to be colored gold.
  2. The crest goat also appears to be using a different art style. I did not find any good goat with a similar art style (the "sodacan" style, as the art almost always goes back to some creation of user:sodacan), So I drew you one — see above.
  3. There appears to be a mix of different line weights. The dexter side supporter lion as well as the lion on the shield appears to have a heavier line weight than the rest of your image. So is the center gem piece on the crest under the helmet.
  4. For the motto, you need to convert your text to shape, or Mediawiki will render the text in a default font, which causes the PNG thumbnail preview to look strange.
Good luck and have fun. --Designism (talk) 02:14, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Seals of the Ministries of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

Article(s): various articles. I hope to add each image to their respective ministry's Wikipedia infobox.

Request
I would like to request quite a large batch of largely similar requests, namely the vectorisation of all seals of the Ministries of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). All seals should be in the same red colour (including the ones in black-and-white above) as that is the standard colour of the special ink used to stamp them with.
Titles, descriptions, captions, Etc. could be wholesale copied, but rather than being categorised in the category "Ministerial seals of the Republic of China" they should be added to a new category named "SVG ministerial seals of the Republic of China" (a sub-category of "SVG seals of Taiwan" and "Ministerial seals of the Republic of China").
Note that these seals don't all use the same "type" (calligraphy) of Chinese Seal script, so even if the inscription reads "部印" for all of them every character has to be hand traced based on each seal.

Article(s): [[]], to be the logo of the new "Quality imports" system at the Wikimedia Commons.

Request
Details of your request go here… I would like to request the creation of the logo of the new "Quality imports" system which was approved by consensus back in 2022, as I'd like to create the page for this new system I'd like to request for a better logo to be created for this. I combined two (2) elements to make the concept logo above which I included in my village pump proposal, but as I had already written there I'd like for the colours to be reversed.
The reason for these choices is because green is usually associated with "good" and as the arrow pointing downwards is supposed to symbolise the act of downloading it (from an external source) the green arrow is supposed to indicate "a good download". Meanwhile the red seal is supposed to make it more easily differentiated from the green logo of "Quality images". If the WikiGraphist taking on this request thinks that red is an "unfriendly" colour towards those suffering from colour blindness it could also be made gold 🪙 or another more neutral colour.
If there are any further questions I'd like to hear them. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:04, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)

@Donald Trung: This is what you described:

But your proposed program is called quality import. The word "import" is typically associated with an up arrow, similar to an upload arrow, so I made this:

Reading your comments at Village Pump, it sounds to me that the Quality Import program is more for people who find valuable and high quality scans, so I am spitballing these ideas around a "scan" theme

All of these have been grouped under cat:Proposals for Quality Imports logo--Designism (talk) 19:25, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

, Very creative with the scan-based motifs, I will just add one to the draft and then I'll open up a conversation once the project is launched. I'll probably launch it soon and then I'll ask help in the Village pump from other contributors, including help with picking out a logo. I do think that perhaps multiple categories can be created in the future, as the conversation just showed support for the creation of this new system but there was no general outline, only a vague concept. Thank you very much for adding more categories as I didn't even think of those possibilities. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:39, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, what I meant with proposing gold I meant a golden seal of approval with either a red of green arrow, this is because red may be seen as "wrong", but it must look distinctive enough from the current Quality images logo. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:41, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request to reverse colours in a file

svg-files with black shema
raster-files with black shema
files with black shema, but versions of white shema in file-history
files with white shema
files with colored shema

Article(s): en:21st Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Skanderbeg

Request
the current file needs to be reversed, ie the white should be black and black should be white. The border should just be a solid black line. The background outside the shield should be transparent.
I have tried doing this with free online tools, but while I can get the colours reversed, I cannot then get rid of the background created by the tool. Clearly I lack the skills/knowledge... Peacemaker67 (talk) 00:05, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Peacemaker67: are you sure, have a look at the other files with same style, what are your references?
The references for 21st SS are Littlejohn and Keegan (both reliable and used in the en 21st SS article). All those ones you've included in the gallery appear wrong in various ways, I have no idea why someone did that. For example, Littlejohn shows the 13th SS sword in solid white on a black background, not as an outline of the sword filled in in black per our file, and the 7th SS Odal rune is outlined in black on a white field in Littlejohn, filled in with white. Basically they are a mess. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (talk) 09:56, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Peacemaker67: dont know what you want to do - in general: you only can update files with same file-type (.svg, .png, ...) - its easy to get a raster-file (png, jpg, ...) from a vector-file (svg) - if you want to get a vector-file from a raster-file you need somebody who create this file (drawing, coding, tracing ...) - as i told, especially in this case, you shouldnt overwrite existing files, because content differs - instead of overwrite files, upload png-files and ask here for vectorization --Mrmw (talk) 10:17, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SVG versions of military command emblems

Please create SVG versions of these military command emblems. Here are the specific guidelines for each:
- Seal of U.S. Fleet Forces Command: SVG version.
- Seal of U.S. Naval Forces Strategic Command: This version of the seal is too digital and shaded. In the SVG version, please simplify and make the details significantly flatter to better resemble other SVG U.S. Navy seals. Use these as references - USNAVEUR-NAVAF logo, PACFLT logo, STRATCOM emblem.
- Shield of Air Force Materiel Command: The current shield image is of an old version of the AFMC shield (published in 2002). Firstly, please create an SVG version of the shown image under the filename Air Force Materiel Command shield (old).svg. Secondly, please create a new SVG version under the filename Air Force Materiel Command shield.svg, using this image as a colour reference.
- Shield of Pacific Air Forces: SVG version.

Voivodeship road signs in Poland

Article(s): en:Voivodeship road and individual voivodeship road articles

Request

There is a problem in Category:Diagrams of Voivodeship road signs of Poland—the height in all images is 270, but widths are different everywhere. It makes them look bad in articles when used next to each other. I suggest that the dimensions be standardized, as in Category:Diagrams of national road signs of Poland. Sometimes (as in image 1), the font also needs fixing.
I managed to find some suggested dimensions in official specifications.[1] For middle-sized signs, height is always at 270, but width is not specified directly (in the example at page 468, the dimensions are about 524 × 270, but that may be different for other road numbers). 2:1 width-to-height ratio was suggested,[2] which in my opinion would be decent. Font bug on preview mode

Article(s):

Request
Hi there, was told to go here for assistance, there is a font bug appearing on my images which I can't seem to get rid of nor fix for some of my images. Either it appears on the file on an actual article page or in (predominately) the preview mode, that meaning the file page, of the Wikimedia file, but when clicking on the actual SVG itself it goes away. Files are taken and saved directly from Excel after creating, tried updating that to see if that was the problem but seemingly has not changed a thing. Appears generally on certain file resolutions of the preview to which the font bugs out for some reason.
Tried using Inkscape to correct on these 2 examples by slightly altering the position of the text, sometimes this works, for example here and here, in most cases but in this example it doesn't on the preview and is bugging me out. Any help which can be provided is appreciated. Thanks, Tweedle (talk) 15:19, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The seals of ministries of the Nguyễn Dynasty

✓ Done

✓ Done

Request
This is quite a large request, but I think that it might be better to create a single large request than to "spam" this page with a dozen requests in separate sections. I'm planning on fully covering the imperial government of the Nguyễn Dynasty on Wikipedia and I am planning on adding SVG versions of their seals to their infoboxes, but as there are quite some ministries I made a list of the most important seals which I wanted to have vectorised. File names should correspond to the inscription found on the seal, which I wrote down next to the image for your convenience.
Currently, most of these ministries are already covered at the Vietnamese-language Wikipedia to some extent. So there is immediate application after vectorisation.
Filedescription:
{{Information

The sun on official flags is this one. Although it is not an official source, it resembles the face on the source I linked more than the current one. Accuratelibrarian (talk) 11:49, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Accuratelibrarian: There are two major differences between what's on Commons and what's present on the "vexilla-mundi.com" website:
  • the reflective eyes
  • The color of the sun rays, whether they are half brown/half yellow or full yellow
The two flag photos provided both appear to have (1) non-reflective eyes and (2) half brown/half yellow rays, unlike what's provided on the "vexilla-mundi.com" website.
That said, I was not able to find a proper high-definition flag image from any official Uruguay website (I don't speak Spanish). Two relatively reliable sources, Britannica and CIA Factbook, disagree with each other. It is better to provide us with official legislative documents for the flag design. --Designism (talk) 14:06, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
