| Description |
English: World War II gun battery emplacements, Graemeshall. Before the Churchill Barriers were built, one of the entrances to Scapa Flow ran just past Graemeshall. Gun emplacements like this one at Graemeshall are dotted at regular intervals around the coastline, and especially so near entrances to the Flow, recalling a time when the population of the islands (20,000) were outnumbered by the 60,000 services personnel posted here in WW II. |
