English: Note the vast differences in the amount of cortex allocated to each of these cognitive centres in different individuals. Because of the modular organization of the cortex, even small increases in the area of cortex composing any particular area of Brodmann, greatly increases that area’s processing power. It follows that the individual with the largest area 9 (e) will have the highest emotional intelligence, while the individual with the largest area 46 (a) will have the highest abstract intelligence. As the size of each of Brodmann’s areas is determined by genes and not the environment, we might logically expect that the relative size of these two divisions of the mind vary significantly between people of radically different personality or possibly ethnic origin.
