Transition from mud to permanent houses in rural Africa (Homabay, Kenya)

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Transition from mud to permanent houses in rural Africa (Homabay, Kenya). This is a simba that was formerly just a mud hut with a grass thatched roof. The owner lives in an apartment in the city where he is working, but it is a cultural requirement that the young male Luo man must have a hut in his ancestral rural home. The house is rarely used, like a holiday home, probably less than 10 days in a year. It is not yet connected to ammenities like water or sewage or electricity. The owner harvests rain water, uses a latrine outside the house and has a solar panel on the roof for lighting.
