Description

Image taken 2003.

To the north is the "Lost Coast" areas of Mendocino and Humboldt Counties. It's a vast stretch of road less coastline. Not everyone, in this pristine setting, has a tranquil attitude. As I peddled up the second grade, a pickup truck was coming the opposite direction. He didn't even have to pass and there was no other traffic, but he still yelled out the window, "hope you have a fuckin heart attack." Maybe this guy felt guilty, seeing me climb the hill, as his doctor may be bugging him about getting more exercise.

It might have been, "I hope you don't have a heart attack." Maybe I just didn't hear the "don't." That would make a big difference.

Just about all of the people encounters on this trip were friendly.
