DescriptionLimestone historical marker in Maysville.jpg |
English: A historical marker on the southwestern lawn of the Mason County Clerk's Office, located at the northeastern corner of the junction of Third and Sutton Streets in central Maysville (formerly named "Limestone"), Kentucky, United States. No date is provided, but this marker's sequential numbering makes it one of the earliest in the state, and markers with far higher numbers (e.g. 645 were still being placed in the 1960s. The milestone in the foreground (metal, not seemingly historic) refers to Maysville's status as a historic transportation center: Lexington was reached by the road that became U.S. Route 68, and Zanesville by Zane's Trace, which terminated across the Ohio River at Aberdeen, Ohio. |
