[edit]DescriptionIfugao rice spoon III.JPG |
English: Ifugao rice spoon (pakko, idu), Northern Luzon, Ifugao, Kankanay, wood, Honolulu Academy of Arts. Sculptural work among the Ifugao and Kankanay always has a function, such as being protective - for example by depicting a snake. It is explained that the figure on a spoon or a ladle associates the object with its owner so that it can be rightfully retrieved at a gathering such as a cañao (ritual feast) during which many such objects may be present. Ladles artistically carved with figurative elements would be highly valued and bestows prestige on its owner. |
