Summary

[edit]

Description: A sketch of a bronze foot held by the British Museum wearing a Roman calceus, mistakenly placed at the entry Carbatina in William Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Antiquities (p. 362), subsequently misidentified by the uploader as Greek. The sole is clearly visible at the front of the shoe, as opposed to actual carbatinae which were single pieces of leather placed under the foot and then bound at the top to hold it.
