The leaf and vine isfirst stamped on velvet which is then mucilaged to a foundation ofsilk or cloth, after which the outlines of pattern are finely run to a foundation with a silkthread. The vel-vet is then cutaway close to thestamped lines, andthe edges are fin-ished with a heavysilk cord coucheddown; the centerof the leaves arethen worked withcoral stitch in ara-sene or chenille.Any other of thefilling stitchescould have beenused here withequally good ef-fect, providing silkthread had beenused in place of ^^^* ^^* arrasene or chenille, as these two last-named materials do not lend th
