Summary

[edit]
Description

English:

These dolphins were photographed in the Alboran Sea, during the Albacore campaign. They probably belong to the species of Bottlenose dolphin ( Tursiops truncatus ) measuring on average 3 m long and moving most often in groups of 25 and sometimes up to a hundred individuals.

The Alboran Sea is one of the most active areas in terms of tectonics and sediments, between Spain and Morocco. The objective of the Albacore mission, during which the image was taken, was to acquire core data on different sedimentary systems and active tectonic zones, in order to carry out an integrated study of the interactions between sedimentary systems, Pliocene-Quaternary tectonic activity and sea level variations.
