| Description |
The Chrysler Corporation, founded in 1925, expanded in 1928, establishing Plymouth and DeSoto brands, they also acquired Fargo Trucks and Dodge Brothers Motors and started selling vehicles under those names. From 1946-51, Desotos were available to the local US market in either Deluxe or upmarket Custom. From 1946-62, a Desoto was also built for export purposes, it was called the Desoto Diplomat and was actually a Plymouth body with Desoto front clip and badges. Along with the similar Dodge Kingsway, both were built in the US and also Canada for export. Chrysler Dodge Distributors became Chrysler Australia in 1951. They also built the Desoto Diplomat 4 door sedan from 1949-56, Australian design input was minimal, although major body panels were locally produced. The 1953 model was referred to as the SP24 Series From 1954, the SP25 Series, three models were offered, the base Custom, Regent and top of the line Plaza.
