Summary

[edit]
Description Stewart Tuttle, acting counselor for Political and Military Affairs at the U.S. Embassy, right, asks a question of Islamuddin Faizi, Literacy Village master teacher, center, at Kabul Military Training Center, Afghanistan, Sept. 6, 2011. More than 35 countries were represented by their respective ambassadors and senior representatives, who visited KMTC for the day as part of an Afghan security forces immersion. The visit to the village was part of a larger demonstration set up to inform and educate the ambassadors about the ANA and included a briefing by Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi, Afghan National Army Chief of General Staff, static ANA displays of artillerymen, soldiers, communications, navigation and counter IED teams, and a special tactical demonstration by Afghan commandoes. Currently, KMTC has 121 instructors teaching Afghan recruits to read at a 2nd to 3rd grade levels. More than 125,000 ANSF have been taught to read and write across the country since the literacy program started in early 2010. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Kat Lynn Justen)
