It Doesn't Make Sense

Generic Roadways

  • A single-lane roadway (dirt) is currently 50px (2px) wide. OK
  • A single-lane roadway (paved) is currently 75px (3px) wide (?)
A "single lane," is a single lane irrespective of the surface of the roadway.
  • A double-lane roadway (paved) is currently 110px (4.4px) wide with a 25px dashed line in the middle (leaving the actual grey lanes 42.5px (?) wide.)
Why isn't it 100px — 2 x a 50px single-wide roadway? Being conscious of the limited space within the icon field, I would not argue for a 125px 'double-lane' roadway.
  • A triple-lane (a 'single' + 'two-lane' or vice versa) roadway (paved) is 180px wide (WTF?) with two 25px median lines separating the lanes.
Again, if the established standard for a single lane is 50px, why not: 50px (single) + 25px (median) + 100px (double-wide) = 175px ?
  • A divided four-lane roadway is 220px (I suspect this was because originally the median line was only 20px wide, leaving the double lanes 100px wide each).
Why isn't it 225px now — 100px (double-lane one-way) + 25px (median) + 100px (double-lane one-way) — with the median line being widened to 25px ?
