Template parameters
Parameter | Description | Default | Status | |
---|---|---|---|---|
blasonxx | City or family name that coat of arms identifies; xx can be any language code | unspecified in English; blank in other languages | required | |
blasonnement-xx | Blazon or literal description of the coat of arms; xx can be any language code | unspecified in all languages | required | |
ref-xx | Book, Web site or other source of the blazon; xx can be any language code | empty | required | |
Description | Always add an English section, even if blank (Commons has more users in English than in any other language, so the odds are that someone will be able to fill this section in). Sections in other languages are added only if "blasonxx" is filled in for the language in question. This should be done only when at least some information is available in the language in question (such as an article link for the city/family and/or a translation of the blazon). Do not add all language sections empty, as this just wastes space and makes it more difficult to edit the image description page. The language most appropriate for the coat of arms in question should be listed first, as the "master" record, though all language sections will appear in alphabetical order in the rendered page. For editing ease, keep all three of each language's blazon description parameters together, and separate each language with a blank line in the wikisource.
In the "blasonxx" parameter (e.g. "blasonen" for English), give the city, family or other entity to whom the coat of arms (escutcheon) or crest applies or applied. When possible, link this to an existing article at the language-specific Wikipedia appropriate for the section. In the "blasonnement-xx" parameter (e.g. "blasonnement-en" for English), give the blazon (the verbal heraldic specification of the coat of arm) in the appropriate language (e.g. English, in this example). The original blazon in the original language should be given in that language's section, with translations provided in other languages, using the heraldic terminology of that language. Heraldic terms likely to be unfamiliar or confusing to many readers may be explained, or the entire blazon translated, in modern terms in [brackets]. In the "ref-xx" parameter (e.g. "ref-en"), add the source (book, website, …) that has been used to obtain the blazon information. If the source is in another language, give the original title, then a [bracketed] translation of it, if available. | empty | optional | |
Date | This parameter has to be filled as in the template {{Information}}. It is the date of creation of the image as originally uploaded, and may also provide the date of the original coat of arms design or approval, if this is known. | empty | required | |
Source | Source of the COA, e.g. {{Own}}. | empty | required | |
figure# | Up to five other images on commons (heraldic figures, ordinaries, etc.) that were used to assemble the coat of arms image can be separately credited by using "figure1", "figure2", "figure3", "figure4", "figure5". | empty | optional | |
user# | For each source image, their author (or commentaries) can be added by "user1", "user2", … (with internal links) | empty | optional | |
Author | This parameter has to be filled as in the template {{Information}}. It should list the creator of the image, with a "User:" link if applicable, and may also provide the name of the original designer of the coat of arms if this information is available. | empty | required | |
Colors | 1 to 10 color letters, separated by "pipes", see the description at the documentation of {{FIAV1}} | empty | optional | |
Permission | This parameter has to be filled as in the template {{Information}}, and should use language templates (e.g. {{En}}, {{Fr}}, etc.) as appropriate. Special notes can go here, such as restrictions applicable under heraldic rather than copyright law. Don't type something like "see below", that is complete witless and of not any use. | empty | optional | |
Other versions | This parameter has to be filled as in the template {{Information}}, see there. | empty | optional | |
ink | Add any value to show {{Created with Inkscape}} template | empty | optional | |
cre | Instead of parameter "ink": subparam(s) for {{Inkscape}}, see its {{docu}} Any one of these parameters transcludes the {{Inkscape}} template
| empty | optional |
