The subject looks much older than 18 years old in this picture. It seems to be from later on in life. Very likely this photo is still copyrighted. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:57, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- The photo is taken from the online free public source of the Parliamentary Library of Georgia, here is the link ==> http://www.nplg.gov.ge/emigrants/ka/00001062/ GeorgaOnMy Mind (talk) 06:25, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for responding here! I am a little confused where you got the impression that the images on that website are in the public domain; I cannot read Georgian, but all I see is a footer asserting copyright for a David A. Mchedlishvili. Felix QW (talk) 07:19, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

- This one is a bit trickier to pin down, since Strassburg spent several months abroad in 1913 and again from late 1913 to mid-1914 and may well have encountered a US Navy ship in the Americas during either of those cruises. Given the placement of the ship's guns, it was definitively taken before the July 1915 refit when the ship's armament was altered. But there aren't any other details I can see that can narrow things down any further. Parsecboy (talk) 12:02, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

Although this photo has EXIF and metadata, TinEye was able to detect that it was first found on the Internet in 2008 (2 years before it was uploaded to Commons): see TinEye's results then please scroll to the bottom to see the last result, I also took a screenshot and uploaded it here (screenshot expires on Nov 1, 2024). I have significant doubt about its "own work" status. In order to keep it, we need a VRTS ticket. Băng Tỏa 03:04, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

I would still like to see these fixed rather than deleted, but one of the two needs to happen. Nine more images of the 1997 Jarrell tornado by Scott Beckwith

- File:Jarrell 1997 dead man sequence image1.jpg

- File:Dead Man Walking Jarrell 1997 upscaled.png
- File:Jarrell F5 tornado rapid strengthening 01.jpg
- File:Jarrell F5 tornado rapid strengthening2.jpg
These nine images were all taken by Scott Beckwith, of Jarrell Farm Supply. The uploader sourced them from an ArcGIS "Storymap" published by the National Weather Service, on the basis that they were in the Public Domain because they had been created by an employee of the US Federal Government in the performance of their duties.
However:
- Scott Beckwith was not a federal employee performing his duties
- there is no claim at the source that these images are in the public domain or licensed under a free license
As photos taken in the United States after 1989, they are therefore protected by copyright and we cannot host them here.

- To me, it's very curious that given how famous these images are, I can't turn up a single interview with him, not at the time, and not in any histories or retrospectives of the event. All we know about him is that he was at Jarrell Farm Supply that day, and that he was a "feed store manager" (it's not even 100% clear that he worked at/managed that specific store, or whether he was at Jarrell Farm Supply that day as a buyer, or seller, or just a visitor or passer-by!) And that he apparently shot two rolls of film (implies that there were more photos taken than just the dozen or so that have been published and re-published over the years)
- There's at least one tonado You-tuber who's also searched unsuccessfully for him.
- I do know that the most famous photo from the sequence was being distributed by the Associated Press a few days after the event, so the AP either licenced or bought outright at least one of these images and perhaps more. (Why would you license or buy just one of the images and risk a competitor licensing or buying others?) But none of the Beckwith images appears to be currently offered for licensing by the AP, at least not in their online collection.
- I do have another lead on someone who lived in the area at the time and who I think might have known Mr Beckwith at the time. I've emailed them. --Rlandmann (talk) 00:03, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- I found a few people named Scott Beckwith from Texas, but it's not clear if any of them are the Scott Beckwith we're looking for. Ixfd64 (talk) 00:12, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

Three images of the aftermath of the 1997 Jarrell tornado by Tim Marshall
- File:Slabbed house F5 Jarrell Texas.jpg
- File:Jarrell tornado F5 house damage.jpg
- File:Jarrell tornado car damage.jpg
These three images were all taken by meteorologist and civil engineer Tim Marshall, of Haag Global. The uploader sourced them from an ArcGIS "Storymap" published by the National Weather Service, on the basis that they were in the Public Domain because they had been created by an employee of the US Federal Government in the performance of their duties. The uploader also incorrectly attributed these images to "NWS, NOAA, KVUE Austin" when there is no evidence that any of these organisations were involved in creating them.
However:
- Tim Marshall was not a federal employee performing his duties
- there is no claim at the source that these images are in the public domain or licensed under a free license
As photos taken in the United States after 1989, they are therefore protected by copyright and we cannot host them here.
--Rlandmann (talk) 08:04, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Comment — Can confirm Tim Marshall did not work with NOAA until 2003. For reference, Mr. Marshall has worked with Haag Engineering 1983 to present. However, in 2003, he began to jointly work for the NOAA Quick Response Team (along with Haag), which meant he surveyed (E)F4-(E)F5 for NOAA officially since 2003. In 1997, he did not work for NOAA. Thirteen images of the 1997 Jarrell tornado taken from TV news sources

- File:Jarrell tornado wedge phase upscaled.jpg
- File:Jarrell tornado wedge phase.jpg
- File:Jarrell tornado wedge shape anim.gif
- File:Jarrell tornado winds animated.gif
- File:Jarrell tornado close-up.jpg
The uploader originally sourced all thirteen of these images from an ArcGIS "Storymap" published by the National Weather Service (and in some cases, has digitally altered the images, possibly with AI). In turn, at the source, the NWS attributes these images to three television stations, as noted above.
The uploader claimed that these were all created by employees of the US Federal Government in the performance of their duties.
However:
- there is no evidence that any of these were created by employees of the US Federal Government in the performance of their duties.
- there is no claim at the source that these images are in the public domain for any other reason, or licensed under a free license
As photos (or videos) taken in the United States after 1989, they are therefore protected by copyright and we cannot host them here.

There is no freedom of panorama in Russia for sculptures. Although the person died in 1924, by style this is post-1991 monument. - Quite surprising, that it was allowed to create such gravestone in 1924. But it is still likely copyrighted. If we do not know the sculptor, then we cannot be sure, that (s)he is 70 years dead (Russia demands often even 74 years). Taivo (talk) 09:48, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

- PD-Russia-1996 applies, if the sculpture is anonymous. But is it anonymous? The fact that I and you do not know the author does not make it anonymous. Is there an expert or database, who confirms anonymous work? Taivo (talk) 13:31, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- The database of the Ministry of Culture also doesn't know / list the author. Does that count? Nakonana (talk) 18:14, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

- According to this website, this is a 2002 work by sculptor E.P. Ogotoyev (Е.П. Оготоев) and architect S.I. Lukin (С.И. Лукин). I'm guessing the former is Egor Petrovich Ogotoyev (Егор Петрович Оготоев, born in 1953)[5]. And the latter is probably Sergey Innokentyevich Lukin (Сергей Иннокентьевич Лукин) on whom I can't find much other than that he is an architect in Yakutia[6]. - This page is redirected to File:Alva Chiang standing and holding microphone on the stage 20230513 (cropped).jpg, but Solomon203 removed it and tagged with speedy delete. He has not provided an explanation for his action, so I suggest keeping this page.--125.230.85.27 12:45, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Keep: As the creator I suppose I should at least clarify that I didn't create the redirect accidentally or as a test: it was a routine (and indeed automatic) creation along with renaming the file. I renamed the file under criterion 3 (obvious error) because the "AGA male staff" does not appear in the cropped version, but I don't think the name is so inaccurate that there's significant harm in keeping it. I have unblanked the redirect because I don't think it's appropriate to blank a redirect while it's being discussed. --bjh21 (talk) 17:43, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
Claimed as PD under author's life plus 70 years or fewer and/or 70 years from the date that the work is published, but per uploader's usage of it on enwiki this is a photograph of a person born in 1944. It cannot have been taken, nor can its photographer have died, before 1954, when the subject was ten years old. Belbury (talk) 11:36, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

Low quality AI upscale of the low resolution 2012 photograph at File:Mohammeds Berufung, Hosemann 1847.jpg. Misleading to suggest that this is a high resolution image of Hosemann's painting. Editors at enwiki had noticed that it was "heavily edited and is of very poor quality" but had left it in en:Depictions of Muhammad (where I've just replaced it with the earlier image).
