Is the panoramio bot also marking these images above. I ordered 23 images to be reviewed and it marked about 12. 11 remain in this category. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:23, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Dear Zhuyifei1999. Please ignore my request. The panoramio bot marked the remaining images one hour later. Maybe the bot shut down for maintenance. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:46, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- For the record, I don't see anything obvious from the logs; not sure what was going on. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 07:49, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Complex Interwiki
Hello my friend,
Your bot does an excellent work suppressing interwiki: like here.
Sadly, since {{Interwiki from wikidata}} and {{VN}}, the interwiki suppression is more complex.
I call that kind of pages "double taxonomic Wikidata items".
Do you think that your bot could manage this ?
Do you need more explainations
Best regards Liné1 (talk) 11:49, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Liné1: Do you mean the bot should implement the same logic as {{Interwiki from wikidata}} so that it will remove cross-namespace interlanguage links? Or do you mean it should only remove those that are identical to those given by {{Interwiki from wikidata}}? In both cases, I will probably have to reinvent {{Interwiki from wikidata}} in Python :( --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 12:53, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, and could you clarify about {{VN}}? Is there some interlanguage logic attached to that template as well? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 12:54, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Could your bot remove direct interwikis (already done) + cross-namespace (through P301 (category's main topic)) interwikis ?
- {{VN}} has the same behavior as {{Interwiki from wikidata}}
- Cheers Liné1 (talk) 13:28, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Liné1: I just thought about this. The bot currently will only consider if the explicit language link points to the same one that's defined on wikidata. If I add {{Interwiki from wikidata}} as another source, with a higher priority than the one directly on wikidata (same-namespace), if the bot see a interlanguage link that is same as the direct wikidata (same-namespace) but not {{Interwiki from wikidata}} (cross-namespace), it will consider the link different and not remove it. If I implement instead that the explicit interlanguage link should qualify for removal if it is equal to either of the wikidata links, that would require a major rewrite of the bot, possibly even require porting from python 2 to 3 (which probably won't be too hard considering we have 2to3 tool). I'd personally think that two separate bot runs, one solely for direct wikidata and one solely for {{Interwiki from wikidata}}, can simplify the code a lot. Is there any other bot operator willing to do this? (Maybe @Jon Kolbert and Steinsplitter: ?) --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 03:24, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- I haven't worked much with interwiki links, so I wouldn't be of much help. Sorry. Jon Kolbert (talk) 22:04, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- I guess I'll work on this this weekend. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 06:28, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

Wrong cats
Happy new year Zhuyifei1999, i am seeing your bot marking several file like e. g. File:In de tuin van Stubbings House. Prins Bernhard en koningin Wilhelmina in gespre, Bestanddeelnr 935-2664.jpg and File:Wafa.jpg incorrectly. Maybe you could take a quick look. --Arnd (talk) 13:29, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
- I saw these kinds of errors before, not entirely sure what is the cause, as it isn't really reproduceable for me to experiment with. Possibly database lag? These should be quite rare. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 16:00, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
- I just fixed a query error in the undo script (I optimized the query a while ago but left a syntax error) and it should start soonish. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 16:05, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. --Arnd (talk) 20:12, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
SignBot stopped working
Did SignBot stop working? The last edit was made on 18 December 2017. --Wcam (talk) 15:06, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- Looks to be deadlocked somewhere. I'm asking a cloud admin to get a traceback before I restart it, so I know where is going wrong and how to fix it --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 15:48, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- The stack trace didn't make sense, and I rebooted it (though accidentally used sigterm instead of sigint) --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 17:10, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look! --Wcam (talk) 17:21, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
Unexpectedly FlickreviewR 2: size_not_found
Here 3 cases in a row [1], [2] and [3]. I tried redo with the last file as you can see to no avail. I wonder what the problem is. Thank you in advance. --Palosirkka (talk) 00:44, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Palosirkka: For the last file, your upload was 100x66 pixels, but the closest that can be downloaded from Flickr is 100x67 pixels. The bot will consider them different --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 05:27, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- Strange, when I download the thumbnail size from [4] it's 100x66. Maybe Flickr serves you(r bot) different sizes? It does indeed say however on the page you linked that it would be 100x67... --Palosirkka (talk) 12:21, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hmm. Weird. Yet another Flickr bug... :( The bot does not download the image unless the dimentions are the same, so what if Flickr incorrectly reports the dimensions the bot can't do anything about it. In any case, please upload a larger version than the thumbnail, preferably the original version. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 12:26, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your time and bad bad Flickr! --Palosirkka (talk) 22:12, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- On Wikidata, the "save" button when you edit is now called "publish". This means all Wikimedia wikis have now changed from "Save page" to "Publish changes". This is to help new editors understand what it does. [5][6]
- Some edits will get an automatic tag on all wikis. This will happen when making a page a redirect, blanking a page, removing almost all content, undoing an edit, or rolling back an edit. You can see the tags for example in the recent changes feed, article history, user contributions or on your watchlist. Some wikis had already marked edits like these in other ways. [7]
- Special:UnusedFiles shows files that have been uploaded but are not used. It will show a file that is not used on the wiki it has been uploaded to, even if the file is used on another wiki. The new Special:GloballyUnusedFiles page on Commons only shows files that are not used on any wiki. [8]
- Structured discussions now uses the 2017 wikitext editor instead of its old custom one. This will work with your preference for wikitext or visual editor. The documentation has been updated. [9][10]
Problems
- Older versions of the Chrome web browser on mobile devices may see the PDF download button, but it does not work. The developers are looking into the problem. [11]
- With the new filters in the recent changes, "Exclude selected" in "Namespaces" did not work for "Saved filters" between 13 December and 2 January. When you loaded the saved filter all other namespaces were excluded instead. This has now been fixed. If you made any changes to your saved filters between 13 December and 2 January, you need to save your filters with excluded namespaces again. [12]
- The latest version of Google Chrome broke how section links are shown in the address bar. You now see
#R%C3%A9sum%C3%A9
instead of#Résumé
even if MediaWiki did not encode it that way. This happened in early December. This problem has been solved. The fix will be in Chrome 64 (23 January) or Chrome 65 (6 March). [13] - Some POST requests to the API took longer than usual in parts of December. This affected the Wikidata UI and some gadgets the most. It has now been fixed. [14]
Changes later this week
- Wikidata will be moved to its own database servers. This is because it is growing and needs more resources. Because of this you will be able to read but not edit Wikidata and the German Wikipedia between 06:00 and 06:30 UTC on 9 January. You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. This includes editing the language links on other wikis. [15]
- The font size in the editing window will change slightly for some users. It will now look the same on all browsers and operating systems. [16][17]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 January. It will be on all wikis from 11 January (calendar).
- WikiEditor's ResourceLoader modules have been simplified to one:
ext.wikiEditor
. All the other modules are now deprecated aliases and should be removed. [18]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 9 January at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 10 January at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Overzealous
Recently, due to editing from my iPad, I posted a reply without a signature. I immediately went back and signed. Yet this bot wades in onto my userpage telling me in a really patronising way to "sign my post". Please put in some delay, instead of annoying people. Bellezzasolo (talk) 00:36, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
- It has a delay of one minute. and the warning should only happen if it sees three violations within a day. For some reason it still counted those the user signed late. I just got that fixed --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 06:20, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
RfA
Hello, noticing your RfA edit, please take a look at user talk:Krd. Officially, the user has to publish his RfA himself so we are sure the applicant is ready. It's ok if the user requested you to do so but I didn't found out that specific discussion. Yug (talk) 09:55, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- Sure, I guess I'll wait a longer time (maybe a few hours?) next time, though I do think those 'published' under Commons:RFA are ready 'soonish' unless stated otherwise, such as via edit summary or user subpage. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 11:33, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree that {{Draft}} should be known as an indication that the RfA is not ready. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 11:37, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Bureaucrats on Wikimedia wikis where the Translate extension is installed can now add and remove the translation administrator permission by default. Administrators of wikis where this extension is enabled can add and remove this permission to or from themselves. Wikis that used a different configuration before have not changed. [19]
- There is a new Discourse test support channel for Wikimedia developers. You can ask questions or answer others questions about MediaWiki and Wikimedia software development. [20]
Problems
- Last week's MediaWiki update was rolled back. This was because of a bug that changed non-ASCII characters when a page was edited. [21][22]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 January. It will be on all wikis from 18 January (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 16 January at 19:30 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes
- A few hundred wikis with less than ten high-priority errors in Linter categories will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 31 January. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Tidy will be removed in the middle of 2018. [23][24]

Structured Commons - Design feedback request: Multilingual Captions
Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the the community focus group for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons.
The Structured Data on Commons team has a new design feedback request up for Multilingual Captions support in the Upload Wizard. Visit the page for more information about the potential designs. Discussion and feedback is welcome there.
On a personal note, you'll see me posting many of these communications going forward for the Structured Data project, as SandraF transitions into working on the GLAM side of things for Structured Data on Commons full time. For the past six months she's been splitting time between the two roles (GLAM and Community Liaison). I'm looking forward to working with you all again. Thank you, happy editing. Recent changes
- Bureaucrats can now add and remove the accountcreator permission by default. This means the user can help create a large number of accounts, for example for an editathon. Wikis can change this if they want to. [30]
- The Wikidata vandalism dashboard is a new tool to monitor vandalism on Wikidata labels and descriptions. It is filtered by language. [31]
- Info pages for file pages now show the file's SHA1 hash value in the table of basic information. This is so users can see that the file is the same as the one they uploaded. [32]
Problems
- Special:Export has a higher error rate right now. This means that the export does not always work. You should check to make sure your page exports worked. The developers are working on fixing this. [33]
Changes later this week
- When you review an edit made with the visual editor you can check a visual diff of your changes besides the wikitext diff. If you pick one diff type it will remember and show you that in future. The visual diff will now be the type first shown to new users. [34]
- When you use a gallery to show images you can define the size, like
gallery widths="150px"
. You could useem
or%
instead ofpx
but it would make no difference. You can now only use150px
or nothing (150
). If you write something else, instead of treating it likepx
, it will not work. [35] - The wording when you send a thanks message will change. Instead of
Yes
orNo
it will sayThank
andCancel
. It will also be easier to understand that all thanks are public. [36] - Redirects connected to Wikidata can create double Wikidata items. There will now be a tracking category for this. Wikis that don't want it can disable it. [37]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 February. It will be on all wikis from 8 February (calendar).

Signbot doublepost
You should have a check so you don't warn the same user twice. - Alexis Jazz 03:42, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- No. User_talk:Zhuyifei1999/Archive_33#SignBot_annoyance --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 04:08, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Zhuyifei1999: at least check if you already warned the user in the past 5 minutes. In this case signbot warned the user at 22:43 and 22:44. They likely hadn't even read the first warning yet. Consider adding "I've already told you (twice)." to subsequent warnings so it's clear this is by design.
- Also consider signing in hotpink when a user overuses signbot. Way more funny than spamming their talk page. - Alexis Jazz 04:39, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- Sounds sane. Will implement when I get time for it (hopefully this Friday) --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 05:42, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- Actually, thinking about it, the implementation isn't as straightforward as I thought it would be. The current implementation is having a single expiring (1 day) counter, and when it counts to 3 we notify. For no-notify-in-5-mins another timer would be needed to track this 5 mins. If the counter is < 3 the timer should not be considered, but is the timer is < 5 mins the counter should not be increased (so the bot would not say three or more times when in reality it is only twice due to the aborted notifications); it's a condition loop here. It's easier to do either of your suggestions, but to do both, I find making sure the process is atomic difficult. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 20:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Problem Flickr profile
Hello; I'm afraid I don't really know what I am doing, so I hope you can help. Could you please make a fix so that the Flickr review bot no longer confirms images uploaded from this account are no longer confirmed? FlickreviewR 2
It seems the bot is operating at around 10 edits / second. Is this a normal speed for it? Artix Kreiger 2 (talk) 14:19, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
- From a quick glance at Special:Contributions/FlickreviewR_2 (I have my configuration set to show timestamps in the form of
2018-02-12T19:13:37
), I see in the majority of cases at 1 edit per second, some have a 2 to 10 second delay between edits, and a few very large delays like 1 minute 11 seconds and 1 minute 50 seconds. So no, 10 edits per second is not normal, could you point me to a page where you see this behavior? - As for how the bot operates, it follows mw:API:Etiquette#Request_limit, by doing the requests in series. It does not have artificial throttling (such as pywikibot's default of 6 edits/min) or otherwise it would not be able to keep up with the review queue because of tools like flickr2commons. If you are concerned with the server load caused by this bot, yes I was once contacted by operations about the bot, but the results is that the bot cause an insignificant load compared to other events like template editing. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 19:06, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

to copy a linebreak-separated list of timestamps to clipboard, and saved it to a file namedtimestamps

- The only seconds where the bot did more than once is at
2018-02-12T00:29:19
and 2018-02-12T00:31:31, and in both cases it did only two edits in the same second. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 21:23, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
