Summary
editDescriptionUnfinished Obelisk, Axum (3160023565).jpg |
This is a broader view of the unfinished stela shown in detail in the preceding photo. Not only can you see where the parent boulder ends; you can also see the gentle slope where quarrying took place during the Axumite Kingdom. When I examined this photo, I noticed the side of the rock facing the camera is smooth and perpendicular to the ground. This suggests to me that other blocks of stone were cut from that piece of rock before work was begun on the stela that was never completed. |
