The old shot and beer joints were a mainstay in nearly all the Rust Belt mill towns. These places were the yang to the factories' yin and a big part of many a mill worker's daily routine.

South Bend, Indiana​ spent much of its history as an industrial powerhouse. As with other Rust Belt cities, the latter half of the 20th century brought economic hardship. The gears of many industries ground to a halt, leaving abandoned factories and homes in their wake.
