The historical tribe known as the Makhlyes dwelt around Lake Tritonis in north-west Libya. In ancient Greek and Roman legend the Machlyes were Libyan tribe of hermaphrodites or androgynes whose bodies were male on one side and female on the other. The historical tribe known as the Machlyes inhabited the region about Lake Tritonis in north-west Libya.
