Bowl by Tiffany Co.. New York City, New York, 1888. . Tritons, seahorses and seaweed ornament this commanding bowl, whose sophisticated design was likely the work of Charles Osborne, one of Tiffany's leading designers at the time. The bowl was a gift to Thomas Goddard from his cousins, the children of John Carter Brown of Providence, Rhose Island. The nautical motifs in the ornement are fitting, given that the Goddards and the Browns made their fortunes in East Indian shipping ventures.
