A natural sparkling minty green tourmaline gemstone elegantly tops this vintage 10k yellow gold ring setting by famed jewelers, Ostby & Barton. The 1/2 carat gemstone was newly set by an experienced jeweler/gemologist into this vintage gold setting, as it was missing its original stone. The tourmaline measures approx. 5.1mm x 3.1mm. It has a vibrant sparkle, unique crystal structure and a wonderful hue. Four sturdy thick prongs hold it in place 3/16 inch above the finger. The ring has sculptural shoulders with geometric shapes and milgrain trim. It was finished with a sturdy thick band. The inside is signed, "OB" (hallmark attributed to Ostby & Barton) and hallmarked, "10k" (gold). The ring measures a tiny size 3.25 and could be re-sized by an experienced jeweler. It might make the perfect pinky ring for some. The vintage setting is in very good vintage condition with expected surface wear. One of the shoulders has some small dings and scratches to the top. The recently set gemstone is in excellent condition. Please see photos for condition and below for detailed measurements. History of Ostby & Barton: Engelhart C. Ostby, the company's founder and president, was born in Norway. He trained as a jeweler in Oslo before immigrating to the United States. He worked for jewelers in Providence before partnering with Nathan B. Barton in 1879 to form Ostby & Barton. Ostby regularly traveled to Europe to survey jewelry and design trends; his daughter Helen began joining him on these trips in 1906. Alas, one of the reasons we know so much about Ostby's life is because it ended tragically. In 1912, Engelhart and Helen booked return passage from France on the RMS Titanic. Helen made it to safety, but unfortunately Ostby perished. The company continued to make jewelry until the 1950 Wt: 1.6 grams US Ring size : 3.25 Length: 5.6mm or 3/16 Inch Width: 17mm or 11/16 Inch outer diameter Profile Height: sits 5mm or 3/16 inch above the finger Condition: very good vintage condition setting; excellent newly set gemstone NOTE: Photo light reflections and the reflection of the black camera can change the appearance of the stone. I try my hardest to capture the gemstones' beauty, which are usually even more vibrant and beautiful in person. Each vintage piece has been examined by a graduate gemologist. Stone carat weights stated represent approximate weights which can vary by the limitations of measuring set gems. Due to the age, antique & vintage jewelry and sterling objects are often not perfect, and may have normal signs of surface wear, or small imperfections due to hand crafting or production in a long gone era rather than mass-manufactured nature. This is what makes each piece special and unique! Please click on FAQs "Do I require signature requirements" at the bottom of this listing to read shipping policies regarding signature requirements.
