This refers to another legend in which Lucy's eyes were put out by Diocletian as part of his torture. The legend concludes with God restoring Lucy's eyes. At first thought, St. Lucy, a third-century martyr, may not be what we think of as a “Christmas saint,” such as St. Nicholas.

We pray for Saint Lucy's intercession in our lives for the preservation of the light of our eyes. She's the patron saint of the blind and visually impaired.
