Blue still life painting

Picasso's got nothing on me. He only ever had oneblueand oneredperiod. I've had three of each already, and all in the same month too. I concede that each oneonly consisted of asingle painting, but that's a mere technicality. This the third and, for the time being at least, thelast of the blue/

Blue surprise, oil on canvas panel, 8 x 8 in. When I started this painting I meant to use ultramarine blue. I squeezed out the paint from my big blue tube, alongside burnt sienna and cad yellow. But a while into the painting, I started thinking "this ultramarine blue is so strange, it doesn't lean towards violet at all!" And then it hit me, "wait a minute, didn't I also have an identical tube of pthalo blue?" Oh yes. Pthalo blue surprised me though, I wouldn't have chosen it but it worked…
